Fulton DA Derides House Oversight in Snarky Letter to Jim Jordan

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis issued a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, responding to his request for documents related to potential communications with Special Counsel Jack Smith.

Willis’s letter, widely characterized as defiant, shows her unwillingness to tell whether her office collaborated with the DOJ ahead of Fulton County’s indictment of former President Donald Trump.

“A charitable explanation of your correspondence is that you are ignorant of the United States and Georgia Constitutions and codes,” Willis wrote, adding, “A more troubling explanation is that you are abusing your authority as Chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary to attempt to obstruct and interfere with a Georgia criminal prosecution.’

Jordan’s initial letter had cited Congress’s legislative interest in ensuring that local fringed prosecutors do not weaponize their authority to target federal officials, specifically former White House aides.

“We can only conclude from your hostile response to the Committee’s oversight that you are actively and aggressively engaged in such a scheme,” Jordan stated.

Willis, however, adamantly refused to provide the requested documents, framing the request as a political witch hunt against her office. Ironically, her own office has been accused of doing the same to prosecute Trump.

Willis continued, “Indeed, you confessed to this motivation on Mark Levin’s September 10, 2023, show: when discussing one of my office’s active prosecutions, you boasted, ‘We’re trying to get all the answers, but we’re trying to stop this stuff as well.’”

Willis indicted Trump in August 2023 over allegations that the White House, at the behest of the former president, engaged in unlawful efforts to question the validity of some ballots in the 2020 presidential election.

Willis’s actions are seen as part of a larger wave of leftist prosecutors aiming to jail Trump ahead of the 2024 presidential election. The DOJ, through the special counsel’s office, has also indicted Trump on similar federal charges.

FBI Spied on Cleveland Browns Football Legend

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) The FBI recently released its file on deceased Cleveland Browns football legend Jim Brown, revealing that agents monitored Brown’s First Amendment-protected activity as he was funding a film about the black nationalist movement.

The FBI’s illegal surveillance of Brown was part of COINTELPRO—its 1960s-era operation where undercover agents infiltrated and subverted American anti-war and civil-rights organizations. COINTELPRO was exposed by in the 1970s by the Church Committee during its investigation into abuse by the FBI, CIA and other federal agencies.

According to the FBI documents released Friday, the U.S. government was concerned about a film project Brown was helping fund in the late 1960s.

“This movie was made in Cleveland, largely through the influence of Jim Brown, former Cleveland Browns football player and current member of the Negro Industrial Economic Union,” an Aug. 1, 1968, FBI memo said.

“Brown wanted it made in Cleveland so as to provide part-time employment for as many Black Nationalist youth as possible.”

The documents also reveal that the FBI had spies throughout the movie industry.

Citing an undercover informant in the motion picture industry, the August 1968 FBI memo gave a synopsis of Brown’s film, Uptight—a film about how black revolutionaries being betrayed by one of their own.

“The picture involves the Negro neighborhood and Negro activities in Cleveland, Ohio, and portrays two distinct groups of Negroes, being the militant and violent types compared to the peaceful group, both groups attempting to obtain civil rights for Negroes through their respective means,” the memo said.

“The picture starts with the militant violent grows stealing guns and ammunition from gun shops, and the implication is that this stealing is condoned. The picture ends with the principal character, Tank, who is connected with the militant group, walking across a bridge at a steel company, jumping off, and committing suicide,” the memo said.

Another spy told the FBI that “90 percent” of people involved with the movie opposed its messaging, fearing that it would “incite Negroes to riot.”

“However, Jim Brown [and the film’s director] reportedly saw this movie as a means for the Negroes to ‘get back at the white people,’” the memo said.

The memo also reported turmoil on the set.

A rival black nationalist group was apparently upset that Brown didn’t hire them to work on the film. This reportedly angered the director, who left Cleveland and finished filming Uptight elsewhere, according to the memo.

The film came out later that year.

Two years later, records indicate that the FBI was still spying on Brown, this time in his capacity as the head of the the Cleveland-based Black Economic Union.

According to a June 1970 memo, agents were concerned that Brown’s Black Economic Union was serving as a front group for Harrel Jones, the leader of the Black Nationalist Party for Self-Defense.

At the time, Cleveland’s Council of Churches and a group called Cleveland Now had given the Black Economic Union a $20,000 grant to “fight drug abuse.” But in reality, that money was being secretly funneled to Jones, according to FBI records.

The June 1970 memo advised the FBI to leak information about the $20,000 grant to the local media, in an attempt to sabotage the payment to Jones.

“Cleveland recommended information concerning the devious means of furnishing funds to the head of [Black Nationalist Party for Self-Defense] be leaked to an established news media source in an effort to deter further funding of this black extremist group,” the memo said.

“It is felt that this information can be linked to the news media without embarrassment to the Bureau, and Cleveland recommends that this action be followed,” the memo said, outlining a tactic of subversion that was typical for COINTELPRO.

Records don’t indicate how the matter was resolved. They do detail Jones’s private protection service, where his black nationalists would patrol Cleveland neighborhoods.

An undercover informant told the FBI that Jones was asking for local businesses to pay a $25 fee. In exchange, the businesses could place a sticker in their window, warning that “any criminal who might intend to victimize this particular business would have to deal with the Afro Set Community Patrol,” the memo said.

Jones was apparently approached by special agents about his protection racket, and he spoke to them about it.

“He stated that he had obtained a truck for the purpose of protecting the community. He stated that he had already begun patrolling the inner city and stated that he was policing the Rainbow Terrace Extension Apartments on Kinsman Road, Cleveland,” a separate June 1970 FBI memo stated.

“He stated that four or five members of the Afro Set lived in these apartments and were in charge of its security force,” the memo said.

Brown was recognized as the AP NFL Most Valuable Player three times, and won an NFL championship with the Browns in 1964.

He died on May 18.

Gas Prices Could Spike amid Middle East Conflict, Experts Say

(The ongoing conflict in the Middle East could lead to a spike in gas prices in the U.S. after President Joe Biden drastically curtailed U.S energy independence and sold much of the nation’s emergency reserve supply to China while squandering the rest ahead of the midterm election to keep prices low.

Oil prices have already signaled a surge in response to the major conflict between Israel and Hamas terrorists in Gaza, which could drag other nearby oil-producing nations into the fight.

“The conflict will almost certainly drive up gas prices, but much will depend on its scope and duration,” Paige Lambermont, an energy expert at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, told the Center Square.

“This uncertainty itself can drive up prices,” she added. “But there is one thing that is certain: Increasing the oil supply would mitigate any price effects connected to the conflict and would help to reduce the extremely high gas prices that Americans were already dealing with when they go to the pumps.”

Thus far, Biden has refused to budge on any additional energy exploration despite having already drawn the U.S. into a proxy war with Russia over its territorial dispute with Ukraine.

Indeed, rather than pursue additional drilling options, the leftist leader recently canceled an existing oil lease in Alaska.

Oil prices have fluctuated in the days since the attack, but overall there was an initial spike in crude oil futures of roughly 4-5% that has so far leveled off.

Gas prices surged in the U.S. in the summer of 2022, hitting a national average of $5 per gallon of regular gas in part because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

To combat those higher prices, Biden released tens of millions of barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Oil Reserve, the nation’s stockpiles normally reserved in case of emergencies.

According to the federal Energy Information Administration, that reserve has been nearly cut in half since 2020.

At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, then-President Donald Trump sought to boost the reserves. However, his effort to refill it was ultimately blocked by Democrats.

After Biden began releasing the supplies with reckless abandon to offset his own short-sighted energy policies and the resulting inflation, they dipped to the lowest levels since the early 1980s, when then-President Ronald Reagan worked to build them up.

Biden took fire from critics for releasing the oil shortly before the 2022 midterm elections, where Democrats feared voters would punish them for the Biden economy with a red wave in Congress.

Although his strategy may have helped politically in stemming the losses, many warned that lowering the stockpile so dramatically could leave the U.S. vulnerable in case of a large-scale conflict.

Now that a conflict may be on the horizon and Middle East oil supplies are even more volatile, that criticism has resurfaced, and is likely to play a significat part in the 2024 presidential election.

“How high will oil prices go?” tweeted Peter St. Onge, an economist at the Heritage Foundation.

“Goldman and Bloomberg are already calling $100 oil. Some are saying $150 if Iran gets involved. Joe Biden broke all the easy solutions after he drained the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to just 17 days. Then burned the Saudis over and over, who may be in no mood to help.”

Lambermont said these and other policies have left the U.S. unprepared for global shocks.

“Unfortunately, the Biden administration has long been pushing policies that reduce the oil supply,” she told the Center Square. “Just in the last several weeks, the administration canceled seven oil and gas lease sales in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, proposed a new rule to impose an outright ban on oil and gas leasing in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, and released an offshore oil and gas lease sale plan that the administration boasts would have ‘the fewest oil and gas lease sales in history.'”

As the Center Square previously reported, Hamas terrorists fired thousands of missiles into Israel over the weekend, and militants spread throughout the country, killing and capturing both soldiers and civilians. The casualty numbers are still in flux, but hundreds of Israelis were killed and even more injured.

Israel quickly fired back, launching strikes in Gaza and declaring war, promising unparalleled retribution for the attacks. The conflict, which is likely to escalate and continue for at least the rest of this year, has raised questions about the U.S. financial and military aid to Israel as well as how oil markets will be impacted.

“Historically, any tensions in the Middle East cause market volatility, and I don’t see this being any different especially if Israel takes direct action against Iran,” said Daniel Turner, executive director of the energy workers advocacy group, Power the Future.

“The Iranian regime feels particularly empowered right now,” he added. They see Carter-esque weakness in the White House and have built strong alliances with China and Russia.”

According to AAA, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $3.66.

“Despite sanctions and international pressure, many of our adversaries never stopped producing and selling oil, and now they are cash rich and emboldened,” Turner said. “Higher oil prices are better for them and will likely result from inevitable escalating violence in the region.”

For now, experts say the impact on prices will largely depend on the length of the conflict and which world powers get involved.

“Prices at the pump are sensitive to world oil markets because the cost of crude oil is set at the global level and makes up more than half the cost of refined gasoline in the United States, on average,” said Travis Fisher, an economist at the Cato Institute.

“Any upticks in crude oil prices tend to translate to increases in gasoline prices,” he added. “For now, the price increases in global crude oil markets appear modest, but that could change if the conflict widens.”

U.S. Senator Files Police Report in Response to Ex-CIA Chief’s ‘Assassination’ Call

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Al., said Tuesday that he filed a complaint with U.S. Capitol Police over former CIA Director Gen. Michael Hayden’s call for him to be “removed” from the “human race.”

Hayden—one of the 51 disgraced intelligence officials who called the Hunter Biden laptop story “Russian disinfo” ahead of the 2020 presidential election—made his statement in response to Tuberville continuing to block military promotions. Tuberville is doing this in protest of the Pentagon policy that covers travel expenses for service members who are seeking abortions.

A Democratic activist asked if Tuberville should be removed from the Senate Armed Services Committee. Hayden responded by one-upping the activist on Monday, suggesting that Tuberville should also be wiped off the map.

After his comments were circulated, Hayden claimed a day later that he wasn’t threatening Tuberville.

“I was surprised to wake up this morning and discover that many MAGAnuts had lost their minds over my suggestion that ‘Coach’ Tuberville not be considered a member of the human race. I stand by that view,” said Hayden, who has also called Republicans more “dangerous” than extremist terror organizations and dictatorships around the world.

“I’m wishing you all a nice day; even the intransigent Tommy Tuberville.”

But Tuberville said Hayden knew exactly what he was doing when he called for his removal from humanity.

“Given General Hayden’s long career in Washington, he must have known that, by making such a statement, he was committing a serious crime,” Tuberville said in a statement.

“His own efforts today to reinterpret what he said are only a tacit admission of guilt. If we still have a nonpolitical justice system in this country, then General Hayden will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Tuberville also blasted his Democratic colleagues for their silence on the issue.

“I am not aware of a single Democrat member of Congress who has condemned this reckless statement,” he said.

“This deafening silence tells us everything we need to know about Democrats and their commitment to ‘Our Democracy.’ In fact, Democrats have only continued to attack me by name today.”

Rashida Tlaib Refuses to Condemn Baby Decapitations

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) Leftist “Squad” Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., who has spent the better part of a week dodging questions about the recent Hamas attack on Israel, had a particularly bad day Tuesday after the longtime promulgator of anti-Semitic rhetoric was confronted with evidence of some particularly barbaric acts during the weekend massacre.

Fox News reporter Hillary Vaughn chased Tlaib through the corridors of the U.S. Capitol hoping to get a response from the congresswoman, who recently posted a Palestinian flag on her office door, as noted by talk-radio personality Todd Starnes.

“Do you condone what Hamas has done chopping off babies’ heads, burning children alive, raping women in the streets,” the reporter asked on several occasions throughout the video, with no acknowledgement from Tlaib.

Previously, Tlaib mourned the loss of lives on “both sides,” but she refused to condemn Hamas for its assault, Townhall reported.

After her initial failure to respond, Tlaib’s office issued a statement on Sunday.

In her statement, Tlaib emphasized the Palestinians who had been killed, culminating in her blaming of the Israelis for the violence that has plagued the Middle East for decades.

“The path to that future must include lifting the blockade, ending the occupation, and dismantling the apartheid system that creates the suffocating, dehumanizing conditions that can lead to resistance,” Tlaib claimed.

Aside from accusing the Israelis of apartheid, she also suggested that the attacks were the only remaining choice for the Palestinians, who felt compelled to defend their people from perpetual Israeli aggression.

“The failure to recognize the violent reality of living under siege, occupation, and apartheid makes no one safer,” she said. “No person, no child anywhere should have to suffer or live in fear of violence. We cannot ignore the humanity in each other.”

According to some reports, the success of the Hamas attack hinged largely on the fact that it was able to slip largely under the radar, having spent two years leading Israel to believe that it was not interested in escalating tension and that economic incentives, such as Palestinian work contracts within Israel that brought wealth to its territories, were having a positive impact.

However, a wide array of theories have arisen, suggesting that key players like Iran or the reformed ISIS may have had a role in funding and coordinating the attack.

Notably, Tlaib’s statement made no reference whatsoever to Hamas or its radical Islamic allies.

This was not the first time that Tlaib used hysterical language to describe the Middle East’s political situation.

In September 2022, for instance, the Michigan Democrat used “apartheid” language to describe Israel’s relations with its neighboring nations.

Tlaib told progressives that “you cannot claim to hold progressive values, yet back Israel’s apartheid government.”

And in May, she hosted an event at the Capitol that controversially mourned the 1948 founding of Israel, using the Arabic word “Nabka” or catastrophe, to refer to it.

Tlaib concluded her recent statement by recommending that America stop sending billions of dollars to Israel in order to sponsor international apartheid.

“As long as our country provides billions in unconditional funding to support the apartheid government, this heartbreaking cycle of violence will continue,” she concluded.

Top Biden Advisor Bragged about Mid-East Stability before Massacre

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) “The Middle East region is quieter today than it has been in two decades,” U.S. National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, bragged during a Sept. 29 conference hosted by liberal publication, The Atlantic.

“Challenges remain: Iran’s nuclear-weapons program, the tensions between Israelis and Palestinians. But the amount of time I have to spend on crisis and conflict in the Middle East today, compared to any of my predecessors going back to 9/11, is significantly reduced,” he bragged.

Eight days later, Hamas launched its surprised attack against Israel, putting Middle Eastern stability in its most precarious position in years. With the conflict spilling into Lebanon and talks of war between Israel, Syria and Iran—the latter two being Russian allies—leaders including Donald Trump are warning that the U.S. is “closer to World War III than we’ve ever been.”

Sullivan’s display of ignorance last month could mark the largest intelligence failure to date by the Biden administration—rivalling his previous wildly incorrect assessment that the U.S.-supported army in Afghanistan would be able to sustain itself after the U.S. withdrawal in 2021.

Even The Atlantic was forced to acknowledge Sullivan’s gaffe in a follow-up article.

“Sullivan’s comments, made onstage in Washington to The Atlantic’s editor in chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, also suggest how little sense there was among Biden officials that something like this could happen,” the publication said in an article on Saturday.

“In the coming days, Sullivan’s Pollyannaish view will undoubtedly be subjected to great scrutiny.”

Others have had harsher words for the National Security Advisor.

“Jake Sullivan, the former Clinton aide who participated in the both the Benghazi and Russia hoaxes, is one of those responsible for the worst foreign policy debacles and scandals in American history,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

“This man, a leader of the Russia collusion hoax and other damaging information operations, is a liar and a fraud. And the proof of his claim is in the eating of the pudding. He is a liar. More attention should be paid to him,” said The Federalist Editor-In-Chief Mollie Hemingway.

Sullivan has yet to address is incorrect assessment on the Middle East. Instead, he made another prediction on Wednesday: that the U.S. can support both Ukraine and Israel in their respective wars.

“We firmly reject the notion that the United States of America cannot at once support the freedom-loving people of Ukraine and support the State of Israel,” Sullivan reportedly said.

BLM Reveals Its Terrorist Sympathies, Sends Some Liberals Fleeing

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) To paraphrase Maya Angelou: “When people show you who they are, believe them.”

At least two chapters of the radical neo-Marxist group Black Lives Matter confirmed what many had long suspected on Tuesday by openly voicing their solidarity with violent Hamas terrorists, ZeroHedge reported.

BLM’s Chicago chapter posted an “I Stand with Palestine” image on Wednesday, but the tweet has since been deleted.

A community note on the original image, which showed a person “paragliding” with a Palestinian flag, offered the added context that Hamas terrorists had used that method to infiltrate the Tribe of Nova Trance music festival in the Negev Desert on Saturday and massacre hundreds of revelers. Prior to that, it said, Palestinians had not been known for their paragliding.

After taking some heat online, the same account attempted to apologize for its initial post in a Wednesday morning tweet, but ended up doubling down on it.

They began by admitting that they had “sent out msgs that we aren’t proud of” before the apology turned into a defense of Hamas.

“We stand with Palestine & the people who will do what they must to live free,” the statement says.

Hamas has long used both Israeli hostages and Palestinian citizens as human shields to hide its activities, while many of those living in territories like the Gaza strip allow the terrorist groups safe harbor, knowing their own lives may be jeopardized as a result.

BLM also noted that it was praying for God to “please unharden Israels heart & help them to stop bombing children & taking over peoples homes & building fences.”

Twitter CEO Elon Musk responded to the BLM chapter, noting that they did not need to keep reaffirming their view of the matter.

Daily Wire podcaster Matt Walsh also slammed BLM, taking the opportunity to trumpet his own clairvoyance.

“I said from the very beginning that BLM is a terrorist organization,” he tweeted. “Now they finally admit it.”

He was joined by another conservative pundit, Benny Johnson, who found it unsurprising that BLM would find solidarity with a group like Hamas.

The Chicago chapter is not the only BLM subgroup to openly side with Hamas, however.

BLM Grassroots issued a statement via Twitter defending the recent attacks as the only possible response on the part of the Palestinians.

“[W]hen a people has been subject to decades of apartheid and unimaginable violence, their resistance must not be condemned but understood as a desperate act of self-defense,” it said.

The BLM tweets were enough to leave some eveb some left-wing supporters in shock.

Conservative reporter Andy Ngo responded to one account who expressed remorse over their past support for BLM, pointing out that the group had long displayed its own violent tendencies as well, but with no condemnation.

Podcaster Tim Pool, meanwhile, mocked left-wing influencer David Weissman, whose claim to fame had been that he purported to be a Trump supporter but defected to the radical Left after comedian Sarah Silverman opened his eyes to the realities of “White privilege and police brutality.”

But now, it seems, BLM’s hate speech has un-wokened him.

For her part, Silverman—like many prominent Jewish public figures on the Left—appeared to be struggling with how to reconcile her faith and cultural belief with her politics.

Her Twitter feed largely expressed support for Israel and condemnation of Hamas, but she went out of her way to draw a distinction between the terrorists and the innocent Palestinians who were helping harbor them.

She also attacked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a “criminal.”

Silverman’s feed appeared to make no mention of the recent BLM posts.

Likewise, the Anti-Defamation League, which routinely calls out conservative speech and flags it for censorship, was notably mute on the topic.

House GOP Nominates Scalise for Speaker; Some Signal Early Opposition

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) Last week’s victory may have been short-lived for the MAGA-aligned representatives who successfully ousted Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., from the House speakership, as Republicans on Wednesday nominated another moderate, Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., to do the job next.

In private balloting at the Capitol, House Republicans pushed aside Rep. Jim Jordan, the Judiciary Committee chairman, in favor of Scalise, the current majority leader, lawmakers said. Scalise reportedly beat Jordan in a secret vote of 113 to 99.

Scalise announced in August that he was diagnosed with a form of blood cancer known as multiple myeloma and is undergoing treatment. After his election, Rep. Pat Fallon, R-Texas, downplayed concerns about the diagnosis, saying that Scalice should only need about three months of treatment and is healthy enough to live into his 90s.

“This is a man who eats bullets and gets stronger,” Fallon said, referencing Scalice surviving a mass shooting on lawmakers at a congressional baseball game practice few years ago.

However, online pundits are quickly expressing dissatisfaction with the outcome. “McCarthy 2.0” was trending on Twitter within minutes of the announcement, with observers despairing that nothing will change under the new leadership.

“I’ve heard Steve Scalise is more Uniparty than MAGA,” commented conservative pundit Rogan O’Handley.

However, Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., has given a sign of support for Scalice. The night before the vote, he said that Scalice and Jordan are both “respected and trusted men,” indicating that he was considering voting for him.

Republicans who have been stalemated after McCarthy’s removal will seek to assemble their narrow House majority around Scalise in what is certain to be a close vote of the full House. Democrats are set to oppose the Republican nominee.

But it’s still unclear whether either Scalise can amass the votes that would be needed from almost all Republicans to overcome opposition from Democrats during a floor vote in the narrowly split House. Usually, the majority needed would be 218 votes, but there are currently two vacant seats, dropping the threshold to 217.

Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., has already come out against Scalise.

“I let Scalise know in person that he doesn’t have my vote on the floor, because he has not articulated a viable plan for avoiding an omnibus,” Massie said on Twitter.

Many Republicans want to prevent the spectacle of a messy House floor fight like the grueling January brawl when McCarthy became speaker.

Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-NC, continues to serve as temporary House Speaker in the meantime.

DOJ Indicts Santos on New Charges of Campaign-Finance Fraud

() Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., was  indicted in federal court Tuesday on 23 counts of fraud, including money laundering and identity theft, according to a press release from the Justice Department.

The charges were filed Tuesday in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

The indictment alleges the freshman congressman committed:

  • two counts of wire fraud
  • several counts of making false statements and falsifying records with the Federal Election Commission
  • two counts of identity theft
  • seven counts of wire fraud
  • three counts of money laundering
  • one count of theft of public funds
  • two counts of making false statements in the U.S. House of Representatives

Breon Peace, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, strongly condemned the embattled congressman for allegedly using his position of power to defraud taxpayers and the government.

“This Office will relentlessly pursue criminal charges against anyone who uses the electoral process as an opportunity to defraud the public and our government institutions,” Peace said in a statement.

In addition to allegedly defrauding taxpayers and the federal government, the criminal complaint states Santos stole the identities of family members and engaged in credit card fraud targeting campaign contributors, saying it was “to fraudulently inflate his campaign coffers.”

“As alleged, Santos is charged with stealing people’s identities and making charges on his own donors’ credit cards without their authorization, lying to the FEC and, by extension, the public about the financial state of his campaign,” said Peace.

In collaboration with the Eastern District Court of New York, the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the FBI assisted in the investigation. Santos is scheduled to return to the Central Islip court on Oct. 27.

The DOJ had previously filed charges against Santos in May, but the new indictment will replace the earlier one, the press release noted.

It comes less than a week after Nancy Marks, the former treasury of Santos’s 2022 campaign, pleaded guilty to related conduct and, presumably, agreed to testify against her former boss.

The victory of Santos—who is among the first openly gay Republicans elected to Congress—in what had historically been a blue New York district, roiled Democrats in a year where they otherwise hoped to dive a narrative that they had staved off a red-wave election and reversed projected trends of backlash against a radical policy agenda.

The rumors that Santos was a serial liar quickly spread, particularly as newly elected then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., made good on a promise to remove several Democrat liars and anti-Semites from their committees.

But with figures like notoriously corrupt Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., in their own midst, Democrats had little moral high ground from which to demand that Santos resign his seat.

Following Santos’s latest re-indictment, former Democrat Rep. Thomas Suozzi quickly announced his intention to challenge Santos again in the coming 2024 election.

London Court to Consider Trump Lawsuit over Phony Steele Dossier

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) Former President Donald Trump has sued ex-British MI6 spy and ex-FBI informant Christopher Steele in London, seeking damages for leaking the phony Steele dossier that underpinned the Russiagate hoax.

In the lawsuit, Trump’s lawyers reportedly said he was “compelled to explain to his family, friends, and colleagues that the embarrassing allegations about his private life were untrue”—referring to baseless allegations in the Steele dossier, such as the false “pee tape” claim.

“This was extremely distressing” for him, the filing said, asserting that Steele had presented the claims in a “sensationalist manner” that was “calculated to cause tremendous embarrassment,” according to the New York Times.

Trump’s lawsuit in the United Kingdom comes after having a similar complaint against Steele tossed out by a federal judge in Florida. But pundits say his case has a much better chance in the UK, which has stricter defamation and privacy laws.

According to the New York Times, two Russians, Mikhail Fridman and Petr Aven, won damages of 18,000 pounds ($22,900) each from Steele’s firm in 2020, after they argued that allegations about them in the dossier violated data-protection laws.

Steele, for his part, has claimed that Trump is engaging in “frivolous and abusive legal proceedings” against him—a rich claim, considering that his dossier essentially derailed Trump’s presidency before it began.

Funded by the Hillary Clinton campaign to smear Trump, the often salacious allegations in the now-debunked dossier were deliviered via secret back-channels to the FBI, which then leaked them to the media after opening its “Crossfire Hurricane” investigation.

The media, in turn, used the FBI investigation as justification to disseminate the reports publicly, presenting them as factual documents, in the weeks before Trump’s inauguration.

In May, Special Counsel John Durham released a report on the scandal, finding that the FBI lacked a legitimate basis for launching its Russiagate investigation into Trump.

However, Durham’s work fell far short of what Trump and his allies had hoped for. The special prosecutor ended his work without any more criminal charges against those involved in Russiagate.

“If this report and the outcome of the Special Counsel’s investigation leave some with the impression that injustices or misconduct have gone unaddressed, it is not because the Office concluded that no such injustices or misconduct occurred,” Durham said in the report, explaining his decision not to prosecute.

“It is, rather, because not every injustice or transgression amounts to a criminal offense, and criminal prosecutors are tasked exclusively with investigating and prosecuting violations of U.S. criminal laws.”
