Ousted SF Leftist School Board Members Claim Recall Was A ‘Right-Wing’ Campaign

'I knew they were going to say, ‘Oh, isn’t it just a bunch of Republicans?’ And I’m like, do I look like a Republican? ... '

(Headline USADemocrat defenders of the three San Francisco school board members who were ousted this week by voters claimed the recall effort was led by “closet Republicans.”

Board members Faauuga Moliga, Alison Collins, and board president Gabriela Lopez were ousted from their positions by a massive margin. Initial results showed that 70% of voters favored recalling each one of the board members.

Shamann Walton, the Board of Supervisors president, slammed the results and claimed the recall effort was pushed by “closet Republicans and most certainly folks with conservative values in San Francisco, even if they weren’t registered Republicans.”

However, a closer look at the voters who participated in the recall effort tell a very different story. One report from the San Francisco Chronicle featured recall backer David Thompson, who also goes by the name “Gaybraham Lincoln and was dressed in “head-to-toe rainbow drag and towering platform shoes.”

“This is what happens when you try to rename the schools in the middle of a pandemic,” Thompson said. “We wanted to show the diversity of the community behind his recall. I knew they were going to say, ‘Oh, isn’t it just a bunch of Republicans?’ And I’m like, do I look like a Republican?”

Thompson and other San Francisco parents said they were upset with school board members for pursuing a woke agenda in the middle of the pandemic instead of fighting to get children back in the classroom. For example, the three school board members ousted this week each supported an effort to rename schools named after “divisive” figures, such as Abraham Lincoln. Meanwhile, the city’s schools remained closed until August 2021.

Collins also tried to smear the recall effort as “right-wing.”
