(Mark Pellin, Headline USA) Former President Richard Nixon tried to strong-arm the CIA into helping his defense through the Watergate scandal by threatening to reveal deep state secrets linked to the agency and to the FBI, even as the CIA was working with Watergate collaborators.
Nixon was unaware of the CIA’s involvement with the Watergate break-in, but knew plenty of other dark and damning secrets that he tried to use as leverage, according to Roger Stone.
“A stunning, long-overlooked Nixon Watergate-era tape shows Richard Nixon warning CIA Director Richard Helms that he knows of CIA involvement in the murder of John F. Kennedy- ‘I know who shot John,’” Stone reported at his Stone Cold Truth substack.
“This shocking new tape depicts Nixon increasingly besieged by Watergate but unaware that at least four of the Watergate burglars were still on the CIA payroll at the time of the break-in, and that the CIA had thus infiltrated the burglary team.”
Nixon had “deeply distrusted” the CIA ever since the agency sold him out by ensuring both Nixon and Kennedy received top secret briefings after they had secured their party’s nomination, and Kennedy had used the insider intel to attack Nixon during their debates, according to Stone.
Nixon’s distrust of the CIA, even without the knowledge of their Watergate involvement, was coupled by his extensive knowledge of the FBI’s off-books work.
Stone reported that, “Nixon also knew that Congressman Gerald Ford, as a member of the Warren Commission, had, at the explicit direction of J. Edgar Hoover, the FBI Director, altered the official autopsy diagram for President John F. Kennedy; moving the marking from a bullet in his upper back to his neck in order to accommodate the single-bullet theory and to conceal the fact that Kennedy had been hit with more than the reported three shots.”
Nixon at one point ordered White House legal counsel John Ehrlichman to “request that the CIA hand over all documents pertaining to John Kennedy’s murder,” Stone reported, and was “furious” when the request was denied.
“This is the same request made by President Trump that was refused during his first term in office,” noted Gateway Pundit’s Joe Hoft.
