(Ezekiel Loseke, Headline USA) California’s radical leftist governor, Gavin Newsom, has launched a war on the rights of law-abiding citizens by enabling lawsuits against gun manufacturers for events they cannot control in an attempt to overcome SCOTUS’ pro-2nd Amendment ruling.
According to Politico, the bill would allow individuals, cities, or states to sue companies that produce weapons, opening a potential floodgate of lawfare suits to be filed against weapons manufacturers.
Even the left-leaning Politico acknowledged that the move is an attempt to initiate a gun grab, writing that “The measure reflects an effort by California and other states led by Democrats to strengthen gun restrictions following mass shootings across the country in the face of fierce opposition by the industry, its Republican allies, and a conservative Supreme Court.”
The law creates “a code of conduct” that dictates gun behavior to citizens and weapons manufacturers.
Firearms manufacturers could face legal action if their products are “abnormally dangerous,” can be illegally converted, or are used by anyone prohibited from owning firearms, despite gun manufacturers having no control over the use of their products, how they may be altered after their sale or the Federal Background System that controls who purchased their products.
Next, one would suspect Newsom to enable states to sue auto manufacturers if their cars can be illegally modified, driven while the driver is drunk, or purchased by people who have gotten a DUI in the past.
Newsom has a long history of attacking Californian’s ability to own guns with this bill. This most recent attack on gun manufacturers, for example, was introduced as a response to an earlier shooting.
The bill, itself a copycat of Texas’s heartbeat law, is designed to make gun manufacturers “more responsible.” Newsom explained that “financial repercussions may encourage the firearms industry and dealers to be more responsible.”
The bill fits the recent pattern of leftists engaging in insurrection to overturn SCOTUS rulings.
Sam Parades, executive director of Gun Owners of California, described the bill as a workaround, arguing that Newsom “can’t ban guns, but he’s going to try to bankrupt lawful firearms-related businesses.”
