Minnesota Leftist Who Pushed to Defund Police Gets Tough on Crime after Carjacking

'Now she wants extra police presence? She can eat the largest bag of d---s...'

(Robert Jonathan, Headline USA) A high-ranking Minnesota Democrat Party official may be pushing for an increased law enforcement presence in her area after recently becoming a violent crime victim.

About three years ago, however, during the race riots and resulting social-justice reforms that followed the death of George Floyd, Shivanthi Sathanandan advocated for the dismantling of the Minneapolis Police Department.

Around that time, she also praised the Minneapolis school board for removing cops from public schools.

In a lengthy Facebook post last week, Sathanandan articulated a far different message in describing how she says she was carjacked in her own driveway in broad daylight in front of her kids by four armed men.

Attaching a selfie of her bloody face, Sathanandan, who is the second vice chair of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party explained on Facebook that she suffered a broken leg and lacerations on her head as well as other cuts and bruises in the beating.

Look at my face. REMEMBER ME when you are thinking about supporting letting juveniles and young people out of custody to roam our streets instead of HOLDING THEM ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS,” she wrote in what amounted to a dramatic departure from Democrats’ official criminal-justice platform.

“… These criminals will not win,” she continued. “We need to take back our city. And this will not be the last you hear from me about this.”

The Democrat activist praised “incredible” police officers and others who responded and declared, in part, that “We need to get illegal guns off of our streets, catch these young people who are running wild creating chaos across our city and hold them in custody and prosecute them.”

According to Townhall senior writer Julio Rosas, someone is now encouraging police to keep a closer eye on her block, and the officers seemed less-than-enthusiastic about doing so because of the politician’s political agenda.

In another footnote to the original incident, Liz Collin, a reporter for Minnesota-based Alpha News, claimed that Sathanandan allegedly expressed dissatisfaction by complaining to Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey over what seemed to be a quick response time by the understaffed police.

Police bodycam footage has yet to released.

Cops subsequently recovered Sathanandan’s vehicle, which was abandoned by the perpetrators.

Sathanandan marks just the latest example of a radical leftist adopting what appeared to be far-right rhetoric after being personally impacted by the inevitable outcome of the Left’s poorly conceived policies.

In a simliar episode last week, New York City Mayor Eric Adams was accused of sounding eerily like former President Donald Trump for warning that the Biden adminstriation’s open-borders immigration policy would “destroy” the Big Apple.

A New York Post editorial on the Minnesota incident noted that the trend of bleeding-heart leftists getting a hearty dose of comeuppance has been happening since at least the era of erstwhile neocon Bill Kristol’s father:

“Yet maybe it’s a true revelation for her—a fresh instance of the late Irving Kristol’s famous quip, ‘A conservative is a liberal who’s been mugged.'”

The editorial also maintained that “Sathanandan’s sociopathic cries to abolish the [Minnesota Police Department] show just how utterly indifferent progs are to the suffering their favored policies cause. Until it hits them directly, of course.”
