McCarthy: House to Launch Impeachment Probe if Biden Doesn’t Provide Docs

'Why can't we get the documents to prove that you're not being bribed, that you didn't get foreign money directly in, that you didn't talk to your son?'

(Headline USAHouse Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., warned President Joe Biden this week that an impeachment inquiry against him could be filed as soon as Congress returns from its recess next month if his administration refuses to cooperate with House Republicans’ investigation into his family’s foreign business deals.

“The whole determination here is how the Bidens handle this,” McCarthy told Fox Business.

“If they provide us the documents, there wouldn’t be a need for an impeachment inquiry,” he continued. “But if they withhold the documents and fight like they have now to not provide to the American public what they deserve to know, we will move forward with impeachment inquiry when we come back into session.”

McCarthy said multiple federal agencies—including the Justice Department, FBI and Internal Revenue Service—are stonewalling Republicans’ investigation, which he noted looks like a cover-up.

“Why can’t we get the documents to prove that you’re not being bribed, that you didn’t get foreign money directly in, that you didn’t talk to your son?” McCarthy said. “But what we found now is that the things that then-Vice President Biden running for president told the American public is [sic] not true, and he’s now had to change what he said.”

The Republican leader predicted the Biden administration will try to hide behind U.S. attorney David Weiss’s investigation into Hunter Biden, but McCarthy said Republicans’ oversight efforts will continue regardless.

“If they use this special counsel to say that they can’t provide us the information, then it just shows more politics. And it will not stop us,” McCarthy said. “Then we would move to impeachment inquiry, and we would be able to still get the documents that we need as we move forward.”

Several high-ranking House Republicans have voiced their support for an impeachment inquiry into Biden, which they argue would give them additional oversight powers necessary to conduct their investigation into the Biden family’s alleged influence-peddling scheme.

Surprisingly, several left-leaning media outlets, including the New York Times, Politico and CNN all have spoken out critically against the DOJ’s apparent cover-up of the scandal or have written stories exposing even more damning facets of the corrupt abuse of power.
