Mass. Leftists Unleash National Guard to Deal w/ Illegals Surge

'Massachusetts is in a state of emergency, and we need all hands-on deck to meet this moment... '

(Corine GattiHeadline USA) Democrat Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey activated the National Guard that transported the latest wave of Haitian asylum seekers to shelters across the state, while protests moved to a fever pitch under President Joe Biden’s failed border policies in the blue state.

Massachusetts is in a state of emergency, and we need all hands-on deck to meet this moment and ensure families have access to safe shelter and basic services,” Healey said in a statement, failing to note it was  sanctuary city policies and Biden’s open border that delivered the emergency to the region.

The New York Post reported that while the National Guard has been brought in to alleviate the shortage of manpower, there’s little that the state can do to address the housing shortage. The only option available was to build new shelters, which was vehemently opposed by local residents.

Droves of protesters, including veterans, flashed signs during a rally Saturday that read, “Vets and Cape Homeless First!!” showed up at the Yarmouth Resort motel last weekend, where the state was expected to set aside 100 units for migrant families, many of whom include Haitian immigrants displaced by natural disasters, the Post noted.

The Left-Wing leaders of the state, like Healey, which supported open borders, scrambled to find shelters due to low resources.  “Right now, the non-profits that are in Massachusetts are stretched and so thin they cannot provide any more staff,” state Sen. Jamie Eldridge told CBS News.

The state created 1,500 temporary hotels, and new permanent shelters have been added statewide since 2022. The state’s Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities said in a statement, “The administration is exploring all options to expand family shelter capacity to meet rising demand.”

Notably, all sanctuary zones refused to cooperate with U.S. government immigration authorities, including states like Massachusetts, Illinois and New York that led to the currently crises. Meanwhile, Massachusetts joined other Democrat-run states, which supported open borders, and cried foul after immigrants infiltrated cities like New York.

Last week, over 400 people protested in Staten Island of a shuttered Catholic school into a 300-bed makeshift shelter. Scores of migrants were left stranded outside the Roosevelt Hotel in Midtown last month, after an unexpected surge of illegal immigrants arrived in Manhattan.

With no available beds inside the hotel, the area surrounding the processing center quickly turned into a makeshift shelter for those who had nowhere else to go.  In Chicago’s South Side, residents slammed local leaders during a community forum for setting up a hotel shelter to care for illegal immigrants pouring into the city because of the Left’s pro-open border policies.
