Kamala Calls for ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban

'There is no reason that we have weapons of war on the streets of America... '

(Headline USA) Vice President Kamala Harris called for an “assault weapons” ban on Tuesday, and suggested holding gun manufacturers liable for gun-related violence.

Speaking in Chicago, just a few miles from where a mass shooting took place on July Fourth, Harris called on Congress to ban assault-style guns, meaning semi-automatic rifles, and get rid of the “liability shield” for gun manufacturers, reported the Independent.

“We have made some progress. For the first time in 30 years, our president, Joe Biden, signed a federal gun safety bill,” she said.

“We have more to do. And Congress needs to have the courage to act and renew the assault weapons ban.”

The ban Harris referenced lapsed in 2004 and was not renewed. Harris claimed assault weapons are “designed to kill a lot of human beings quickly.”

Plenty of surveys, however, confirm that the vast majority of semi-automatic weapons are used as sports rifles for hunting.

“There is no reason that we have weapons of war on the streets of America,” she continued. “We need reasonable gun safety laws. And we need to have Congress stop protecting those gun manufacturers with the liability shield. Repeal it! Repeal it! So we cannot be deterred.”

President Joe Biden also suggested getting rid of the “liability shield” last month.

“We should repeal the liability shield that often protects gun manufacturers from being sued for the death and destruction caused by their weapons,” he said. “They’re the only industry in this country that has that kind of immunity.”
