GRACIA: The Urgency of Accountability and Action in Defending Our Borders

(Bianca GraciaHeadline USA contributor) Our nation is founded on the rule of law and the preservation of American sovereignty—values that are currently being threatened by the administration’s approach to border security and immigration enforcement.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas appears to be sidestepping these foundational principles, undermining the integrity of our immigration system by failing to remove nearly a million deportable immigrants.

Instead of adhering to our established immigration laws, illegal entries and visa overstays are now common under Mayorkas’s administration. This has created an intricate “shell game,” with illegal immigration surreptitiously funneled through legal ports of entry under the cover of the CBPOne app.

This strategy not only misrepresents the true number of illegal crossings, but it also adds nearly a million undocumented immigrants to the U.S. population each year through visa overstays.

This state of affairs is unacceptable and warrants immediate action. If we are to reclaim our borders, enforce our immigration laws and safeguard American citizens, certain critical steps must be taken.

Firstly, we need to recognize the crisis at our border as an invasion, as stated in the Texas Constitution Article 1 Section 10. This would allow us to close the border and every port of entry until the crisis is sufficiently addressed.

To further bolster our border enforcement capabilities, we should deputize veterans and activate our National Guard. This strategy puts into action individuals who have served our country and understand the importance of its defense.

Simultaneously, we must also hold accountable those individuals aiding and abetting this invasion. Any federal, state or county individual found to be facilitating this illegal activity must face arrest. There should be no exceptions for those in positions of power who undermine our national security.

Our response also demands negotiation with Mexico. Our border will remain closed until Mexico takes substantive action to halt the illegal migration from their end. If they fail to act, they will have to contend with the economic consequences of closed border entries.

Beyond immediate border actions, we need to call for an emergency legislative session. Our lawmakers must produce a comprehensive border security bill that designates cartels, human traffickers and smugglers as terrorists and enemies of the state. This legislation is vital to ensure the safety of our state and the country.

Finally, we should also conduct thorough investigations of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) involved in immigration issues. We need to scrutinize how these organizations have spent their grant funds and demand evidence of tangible results from their work.

These are challenging times, but with a dedicated focus on law enforcement and accountability, we can reclaim control of our borders and safeguard the integrity of our immigration system.
