Fusion GPS’s ‘Tech Maven’ May Be Forced to Testify in Sussmann Case

(Joshua Paladino, Headline USA) District Court Judge Christopher Cooper may let Special Counsel John Durham question a Fusion GPS employee, Laura Seago, who has knowledge about the company’s decision to craft fake opposition research against then-candidate Donald Trump.

Fusion GPS coordinated with the law firm Perkins Coie and Hillary Clinton‘s 2016 presidential campaign to concoct the Russiagate hoax, and Seago, who Durham called a “Tech Maven,” may have a “unique insight” into the plan, the Epoch Times reported.

If the judge approves the request, Durham or other federal prosecutors would question Seago during Michael Sussmann‘s trial, which will begin on May 16 in Washington, D.C.

Durham sought charges against Sussmann for lying to the FBI about his relationship with Fusion GPS, the Hillary for America campaign, and the DNC. A federal grand jury approved a charge of making false statements in September 2021.

Sussmann told the FBI that he had no conflicts of interest to disclose when he relayed the false claim that the Trump Organization had a secret backchannel with Russia’s Alfa Bank, which somehow tied him to the Kremlin.

He called himself “a concerned citizen,” despite being a partisan Democrat operative.

Durham asserted, however, that Sussmann coordinated with the Clinton campaign’s primary lawyer, Marc Elias, and Neustar executive Rodney Joffe to create a “narrative” that tied Trump to Russia.

In September 2016, Sussmann presented FBI General Counsel James Baker with documents that Fusion GPS and Joffe created, which he likely knew to be fraudulent.

Cooper simply “unsealed”—or made public—Durham’s motion to force Seago to testify about Sussmann, Fusion GPS, Perkins Coie, the Clinton campaign, and related matters.

Durham said Seago’s testimony is needed because she was “the only Fusion GPS employee who exchanged emails with [Joffe] concerning [Alfa-Bank] allegations.”

He further stated in the motion that Seago “acted as the firm’s primary ‘technical’ expert; worked for an extended time period on issues relating to the [Alfa] allegations; was a part of the team that handled work under Fusion’s contract with HFA and the DNC; and met in 2016 with various parties – including [Perkins Coie], [Joffe], and the media–about the [Alfa] allegations.”
