(Headline USA) A former aide to GOP presidential candidate Chris Christie was arrested this month on child sexual abuse and child pornography charges.
Kevin Tomafsky, 41, was taken into custody on Aug. 15 after a grand jury indicted him in July. He had been under investigation since October 2022 when Snapchat reported the uploading of alleged child sex abuse from his account.
Tomafsky allegedly received a photo on the app of a 6-year-old girl engaging in oral sex with an adult, according to the records supplied by Snapchat and reviewed by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s office.
When police executed a search warrant in a house owned by Tomafsky’s mother, who he lives with, they reportedly found nearly 1,000 other items related to child sexual abuse.
Tomafsky was employed by Chris Christie’s administration when Christie was governor of New Jersey. He worked for Christie’s scheduling office from 2010 to 2012, managing surrogates that represented the former governor at events.
Christie’s office then recommended Tomafsky for his next gig as a government and community relations representative at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
“I am 100 percent on Team Christie, and I want to make sure that I do all that I can to serve him in the best way possible,” Tomafsky said in an email at the time, according to the Globe.
Christie is running for the GOP nomination for president, but is far behind the other candidates, especially former President Donald Trump, who is now leading the pack by more than 50 points.
However, Christie claimed Trump’s lead won’t last.
“A lot of people will say they’re for Trump now because he’s winning,” Christie told CNN this week. “The minute someone else is feasible, is plausible ― and by winning either the caucuses in Iowa or the primary in New Hampshire, you’re more than feasible or plausible. You’re now someone who has defeated Donald Trump. That becomes a whole different story.”
