(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) The state of Massachusetts is providing illegal immigrants with driver’s licenses, an expenditure that will cost $28 million in taxpayer funds according to Democrat Gov. Maura Healey.
The state, which has an estimated 85,000 illegals with the potential to receive a license, originally planned to spend under $10 million on the project, Breitbart reported.
“In support of this new law, H.1 adds $28 million in funding to expand service hours at select RMV locations … new applicants will pay the standard transaction fees at the Registry, bringing in additional revenue that will largely offset these implementation costs,” Healey’s office noted in a budget memo.
The former Republican governor, Charlie Baker, tried to stop the law towards the end of his term, but Massachusetts’s Democrat-controlled legislature overruled his veto.
A young migrant named Everton Candido, 19, became the star of the movement to get illegal aliens drivers licenses after his arrest for allegedly killing Walter Wishoski Jr., 77, in a fatal driving accident. Candido was driving without a license at the time of the crash.
Wishoski, born and raised in Malden, Massachusetts, was a veteran of the Army National Guard.
Illegals caught driving without a license usually receive criminal charges, returned to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and deported to their homeland.
Massachusetts is host to nearly 300,000 illegal aliens.
In 2022, over 17,500 illegals were arrested on drunk driving convictions and turned over to ICE agents; another 11,500 traffic offenses were committed by illegals who were eventually turned over to ICE.
Despite rising crime and lowering funds, the Biden administration refuses to address the flood of illegal aliens attempting to cross the southern border.
Recently, the president attempted to pin the blame on Republican lawmakers, many of whom begged the White House for aide of any kind.
“MAGA House Republican proposals would slash funding for border security,” Biden tweeted. “A move that could allow nearly 900 pounds of fentanyl into our country. We need more resources to secure the border. Not less.”
Many Republican legislators hit back, calling the president a liar, pointing out that he consistently demonizes and defunds border agents and correcting him by saying the existing fentanyl problem is due to his neglect.
