Colo. Gov. Polis Permits Abortion Until Moment of Birth

'A fertilized egg, embryo, or fetus does not have independent or derivative rights under the laws of the state... '

(Alex Tien, Headline USA) As tensions continue to mount in the US around the issue of abortion, the governor of Colorado has made a shocking move, signing into law a bill creating what is called a “fundamental right” to abortion, contraception and other types of “reproductive health-care rights.”

The radical bill explicitly denies any rights to an unborn child.

Democrat leftist Gov. Jared Polis signed H.B. 22-1279, the “Reproductive Health Equity Act,” which the governor said “codifies a person’s fundamental right to make reproductive health-care decisions free from government interference.”

The law states that “a fertilized egg, embryo, or fetus does not have independent or derivative rights under the laws of the state.”

Further, the law prevents any public entity to “deny, restrict, interfere with, or discriminate against an individual’s fundamental right to use or refuse contraception or to continue a pregnancy and give birth or to have an abortion in the regulation or provision of benefits, facilities, services, or information.”

“In the State of Colorado, the serious decision to start or end a pregnancy with medical assistance will remain between a person, their doctor, and their faith,” Polis said.

Polis, who is the United States first openly gay man to be elected governor, is working hard to combat the groundswell of support to bring an end to the landmark 1973 Roe vs. Wade SCOTUS decision. The Colorado bill is seen as a direct response to the highly contested Mississippi law that bans abortions after 15 weeks.

In what could be a watershed year for the pro-life movement, with the Supreme set to reconsider Roe vs. Wade this year, Polis’ actions are yet another sad and horrifying example of the leftist commitment to infanticide.
