Newly elected Rep. Kat Cammack, R-Fla., said she will fly an Israeli flag outside her office, one door down from Palestinian Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., who does not support Israel’s existence.
“[Tlaib] has some very strong opinions about Israel, and I have some very strong opinions about Israel, so I have made a pledge that I’m going to be planting the flag of Israel outside my door right next to the American flag, Cammack said, WCJB reported.
Gators for Israel, a student group at the University of Florida, will send the flag to Cammack.
“I think it’ll be very helpful as she walks past it every day,” Cammack said.
Tlaib supports the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement, which seeks to undermine Israel’s economy so that the nation will bend to Palestinian demands. She also opposes foreign aid for Israel.
Trying to recover from her past negative statements about Jews and Israel, Tlaib said to Jews in December, “Tell everybody, I don’t hate you. I absolutely love you.”
“If anybody comes through my doors or through any forum to try to push anti-Semitism forward, you will hear me being loud with my bullhorn to tell them to get the hell out,” she said.
Tlaib made these comments while speaking on a panel for Jewish Voice for Peace, a group that supports a one-state solution, which would abolish Israel as a Jewish homeland.
