Calif. Becomes First State to Give Food Stamps to Illegal Immigrants

'California is once again making history by removing xenophobic exclusions to our state’s safety net... '

(Chris Parker, Headline USA) Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., has signed a state budget deal that includes food stamps for illegal immigrants, making it the first state to do so and again extending benefits to criminals at the expense of taxpayers.  reported Breitbart.

The expansion will cost Californians $35 million and cover illegal immigrants over the age of 55, reported Breitbart. It’s expected to attract 75,000 applicants each year, with the annual cost expected to hit $113.4 million in 2025-2026.

Newsom also approved another $2.4 billion of taxpayer money to give health insurance to all of the state’s 3.3 million illegal immigrants. That program will begin paying benefits in 2024.

The nonprofit group Nourish California praised the move, with one executive saying, “California is once again making history by removing xenophobic exclusions to our state’s safety net.”

The proposal was first introduced last summer. The California Health Benefits Review Program admitted that the food stamps and free health insurance will likely lead to an influx of illegal immigrants at a significant cost to taxpayers.

California is currently facing a record-breaking deficit despite having the world’s sixth-largest economy. It also has the largest economy of any sub-entity.

California plans to close its deficit by raising taxes on businesses (despite already having some of the nation’s highest taxes), cutting funding for schools and lowering pay for state workers.

The state already spends around $22 billion per year on illegal immigration. This includes the cost of providing necessities, education, housing and healthcare. It also includes law enforcement costs.

California currently has the largest illegal immigrant population of any state. Beyond the financial cost, the sanctuary state policies have led to significant crime and homelessness across the Golden State.

The potential rise in illegal migrants seeking California’s new benefits is concerning for the US border patrol. They have already been overwhelmed with the influx of illegal migration since Biden took office.

The added cost could extend well beyond California – especially given the growing number of terrorists attempting to cross Biden’s open border.
