(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) Former American president and Founding Father Thomas Jefferson’s former home in Monticello has been reduced to a museum for woke ideology, the Western Journal reported.
The tour, according to the website, is meant to highlight the “experiences of the enslaved people who lived and labored on the Monticello plantation.”
They also emphasized Thomas Jefferson‘s slaveholding past, as liberals are wont to do, using this biographical fact to undermine his rhetorical flourishes in the Declaration of Independence.
“Thomas Jefferson wrote that ‘all men are created equal,’ and yet enslaved more than 600 people over the course of his life,” the curators wrote.
Jefferson, therefore, contributed to systemic racism, which in their view has plagued the nation since the year 1619.
They admitted that though he “made some legislative attempts against slavery and at times bemoaned its existence,” Jefferson also “profited directly from the institution of slavery.”
His old estate has been littered with signage detailing above all of his achievements Jefferson’s association with slavery.
According to New York Post reporters Mary Kay Linge and Jon Levine, the curators of the old house spared no efforts to trash Jefferson.
“Interpretive signage throughout the estate places slavery at the forefront of each historical feature by adding the word ‘enslaved’ before every possible job description, often multiple times: ‘an enslaved cook,’ ‘enslaved postilions,’ ‘Jefferson’s enslaved valet, Burwell Colbert.'”
Brownstone Institute founder Jeffrey Tucker, who recently attended a tour at Monticello, ripped on the tour guides for their attempts to smear Jefferson.
“The whole thing has the feel of propaganda and manipulation. People on my tour seemed sad and demoralized.”
When asked about their betrayal of Jefferson, Monticello spokeswoman Jenn Lyon said that she wants to make things as inclusive and diverse as possible.
“Our goal is to present an honest, inclusive history of Monticello in all its aspects as well as Jefferson’s contributions to the founding of the country.”
