San Diego County government employees are being forced to undergo anti-racism training during which they are taught that only white people can be racist, according to the Washington Examiner.
The county’s Health and Human Services Agency has been requiring employees to spend six hours watching an online racism course called “Power and Privilege.”
The course teaches Critical Race Theory and includes statements such as “Racism is a WHITE” problem, and, “Only white people can be racist,” according to one employee who participated in the training.
The course’s instructor, Reggie Caldwell, told participants, “Only white people can be racist, no other BIPOC’s (Black, Indian, and people of color) can be racist,” the employee added.
“This training is lumping people into groups, and it has not explained how some (minority) individuals have succeeded in this systemically racist country—like Barack Obama, NBA/NFL players who make millions, Dr. Ben Carson, Oprah, and Whoopi Goldberg, to name a few,” said the employee, who asked to remain anonymous.
The training also claims that white Americans live in a “white supremacy culture,” which is characterized by “perfectionism,” “sense of urgency,” “paternalism” and “objectivity,” according to leaked slides of the course.
In one exchange, the employee said Caldwell compared the American flag to the Nazi flag and said anyone who flies an American flag needs “to think about their actions and how it makes others feel … because it’s seen as racist.”
San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond, a Republican, said he did not know about the anti-racism training until contacted for comment.
“The training slides were an absolute surprise,” he said. “The goal for San Diego County is to eradicate all forms of racism. However, as presented, the topics of employee training drives a wedge between people instead of uniting them for the common good.”
