(Joshua Paladino, Headline USA) Woke soccer stars tried to wear rainbow-colored pride armbands during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, a Muslim nation that prohibits homosexual sex and marriage, often under penalty of death.
FIFA warned players that wearing the “One Love” LGBT armbands on the field would result in “sporting sanctions,” meaning their penalties would come in-game as immediate yellow cards rather than as a post-game fine, Zero Hedge reported.
FIFA’s rulebook states that captains must wear their club’s armband. Athletes often pay league fines to express their grievances and viewpoints, but the soccer clubs could not tolerate penalties that would harm their prospect of winning.
This forced the clubs to reluctantly enforce FIFA’s rules.
England, Wales, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland issued a joint statement acquiescing to FIFA.
“As national federations, we can’t put our players in a position where they could face sporting sanctions including bookings, so we have asked the captains not to attempt to wear the armbands in FIFA World Cup games,” the clubs stated.
“We are very frustrated by the FIFA decision which we believe is unprecedented,” they added.
Apparently Qatar’s government demanded that FIFA enforce rules to prevent players from promoting queer ideology in the Muslim nation that considers homosexuality a crime. Qatar reportedly does not frequently enforce these laws and has never carried out the death penality for homosexual acts.
