(John Ransom, Headline USA) Georgia’s Republican Gov. Brian Kemp signed a law Tuesday that made constitutional carry legal in the state, meaning any law-abiding citizen can legally carry a firearm in public.

“SB 319 makes sure that law-abiding Georgians—law-abiding Georgians, including our daughters and your family too—can protect themselves without having the permission of the state government,” Kemp said, according to Fox News.
“The Constitution of the United States gives us that right, not the government,” he continued. “HB 218 ensures that individuals who are licensed to carry in another state are also authorized to do so here in Georgia.”
Felons, those facing felony charges, those with substance-abuse problems and those with mental-health issues would still be legally prevented from carrying a firearm, exactly as they are today, said the Atlanta Journal–Constitution.
The law simply permits any law-abiding citizen to enjoy his or her constitutional right to keep and bear arms without burdensome government intrusion.
“We fought to protect the constitutional rights of every person in this state and we won,” said state Sen. Jason Anavitarte, a Paulding County Republican who sponsored SB 319, according to the AJC.
In his previous campaign, Kemp had vowed to pass such a law, said Atlanta’s Fox5.
Now facing a serious primary challenge from Trump-endorsed ex-Sen. David Perdue, he has finally gotten around to it.
Purdue previously had blasted Kemp for not keeping his promise.
“If Brian Kemp feels so strongly about constitutional carry, why hasn’t he gotten it done?” a Perdue spokesperson told The Reload, a pro-gun blog and newsletter. “Kemp has had three years to get constitutional carry across the finish line, and he hasn’t delivered.”
Judging by the fits that Democrats were having in Georgia, it looks like Kemp delivered in a big way now.
“This legislation will potentially allow individuals with a criminal history who purchase a gun through a private sale to legally carry a hidden, loaded weapon in our communities,” said state Rep. Kimberly Alexander, a Democrat, according to Fox 5.
And it also increases the numbers of citizens who can stop them.
