De Blasio Considering Run For U.S. House

'I am going to devote every fiber of my being to fight inequality in the state of New York... '

(Headline USA) Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, a Democrat, is considering a run for the U.S. House, according to multiple reports.

De Blasio, who exited office with record-low approval ratings, believes he might have a chance in one of New York’s new districts, which Democrats unveiled this week in their new gerrymandered congressional map.

The new map moves de Blasio’s House district from one currently represented by Democrat Rep. Yvette Clarke to one represented by Republican Rep. Nicole Malliotakis.

Former Democrat Rep. Max Rose also plans to challenge Malliotakis, who unseated him during the 2020 election.

Rose would face de Blasio in the Democrat primary should de Blasio choose to run. The two Democrats are not allies. In fact, Rose once ran a campaign ad blasting de Blasio as “the worst mayor in the history of New York City.”

De Blasio was also considering a run for New York’s governorship, but recently decided against it.

“No, I am not going to be running for governor in New York State, but I am going to devote every fiber of my being to fight inequality in the state of New York,” de Blasio said last month.

“We’ve got a lot to do together,” he said. “I’m gonna share some more news with you in the days ahead. And let’s keep this fight going because we proved change can happen in New York.”

As one of his last acts, de Blasio implemented a private sector mandate forcing all businesses in the city to require that their employees get vaccinated against COVID-19. He also mandated that all indoor venues, such as restaurants and gyms, require proof of vaccination from customers ages 5-years-old and up.
