(Headline USA) The White House defended its new Disinformation Governance Board this week, claiming “no one” should oppose efforts to crack down on misinformation online.
The Biden administration revealed during a congressional hearing this week that it has created a new board within the Department of Homeland Security to monitor false information spread online about minority communities, among other things.
The board immediately came under criticism, especially after the White House revealed that leftist activist Nina Jankowicz, who denied the legitimacy of the Hunter Biden laptop story and advocated for COVID-19 lockdowns, had been appointed to lead it.
When asked about these concerns this week, White House press secretary Jen Psaki dismissed them as trivial.
“It sounds like the objective of the board is to prevent disinformation and misinformation from traveling around the country in a range of communities,” Psaki said. “I’m not sure who opposes that effort.”

Asked about the board again on Friday, Psaki defended Jankowicz as an “expert” who has “testified before Congress.”

Republicans, however, have vowed to make sure the disinformation board never sees the light of day:
The Federal Government has no business creating a Ministry of Truth.
The Department of Homeland Security’s “Disinformation Board” is unconstitutional and unamerican, and I’ll be introducing a bill to defund it. https://t.co/n3H9c8XGB1
