(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) On Friday, Donald Trump said that Republicans must fight Democrats on mail-in voting and ballot harvesting because GOP doesn’t have a choice but to “live with the system that stinks” until Republicans get back into power and make things better, according to Breitbart.
He said that there should be systemic reform to the way elections are conducted.
“The best thing would be same-day voting, paper ballots, voter ID, etc.,” Trump said.
Trump suggested that the problems with election integrity were not a matter of the system failing, per se, but rather of it working all too well for Democrats who intentionally sought to undermine it in their unrelenting pursuit of more power to try to upend America’s longstanding democratic institutions.
“The system, it’s not a question of being broken—the system is corrupt,” Trump said. “It’s a corrupt system. A mail-in ballot will always be corrupt,” Trump said.
“When you go to a polling location and they want your identification and everything, the way—you can’t really vote unless it’s a legit deal,” Trump continued. “If you have mail-in ballots, nobody has any idea where it’s coming from or where it’s going to, and then it travels through so many hands.”
He also pointed out that Republicans, even though they are not in a position of power right now, should enact major reforms regarding election integrity at the federal, state and local levels.
Trump said that Republicans had few options with Democrats in control of the Senate and the White House but to try to “shame” corrupt leftists, but if that fails they may have little choice but to try to outdo Democrats in the mail-in voting game.
“[Y]ou can shame the hell out of people and you can shame the Democrats. The Democrats know it’s corrupt and the Democrats should want to fix it but they don’t because they do have an advantage under that system,” Trump said.
“For the time, though, we have to live with the system that stinks so we have to fight it like they do.”
