(Headline USA) A George Soros-funded California district attorney claimed this week that her role “has really no impact on crime.”
Alameda County district attorney Pamela Price is battling a recall effort over her soft-on-crime policies, which local residents say have made crime worse.
In Oakland alone, robberies have increased by 14% since last year, prompting residents to speak out at a contentious town-hall meeting last month.
“Two kids beat the s*** [out] of me in front of my house last Monday night,” said one North Oakland resident in her 50s during the meeting. “Down on the pavement. Punching me, kicking me, dragging me through the street.”
A political-action committee, Save Alameda for Everyone, launched last week with the goal of removing Price, who has blasted the effort as politically motivated.
“The DA’s role has really no impact on crime,” she claimed during an interview with KPIX-TV.
“To create a safe community, we need to invest in alternatives to incarceration,” she continued. “… Anytime that we can divert someone from the criminal justice system, that is a goal because the criminal-justice system has been shown to be racially biased.
When asked whether her “restorative justice” policies favored perpetrators over victims, Price attempted to flip the script, suggesting that those who committed violent and illegal acts were often justified in doing so due to systemic oppression.
“What studies have shown and is proven in Alameda County, many times people who are perpetrators, or labeled as perpetrators, were actually victims,” she claimed
Price also downplayed rising crime rates throughout Alameda County.
“I live in East Oakland even, and I know a lot of people say, ‘Oh that’s terrible!'” she said. “I feel safe.”
Local residents who have been directly affected by Price’s leniency argued otherwise.
“There’s a lot of families that are victims of Pamela Price and the system that she’s trying to create,” said Lori Mohs, whose son was shot to death by a shoplifter in April. “It will be three months on Tuesday of my son’s death.”
Mohs said her son’s killer, Benicia Knapps, was slapped with a murder charge and an enhancement that carries the least amount of prison time.
“We should be using the judicial system as it should be used, not for personal gain but for the safety of our communities and our children,” Mohs said.
“By not charging the proper ‘gun’ which is discharge and death, Benicia Knapps will serve much less of a sentence and the DA’s office is refusing to do so,” she continued. “It’s not fair that we have to be victimized again.”
