Report: Ancient Jewish Artifacts Stored at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago

'He has the Ark of the Covenant...'

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) Classified documents aren’t the only government property to be found recently at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.

According to the Israeli news site Haaretz, antiquities belonging to Israel have also been found there in recent months.

“Among the antiquities are ancient ceramic oil lamps which are part of Israel’s national treasures collection,” Haaretz reported Tuesday.

Haaretz reported that the archeological items were shipped from Israel to the U.S. for a Hanukkah event attended by Trump in 2019, but bureaucratic snafus prevented the artifacts from being returned.

“An Israeli official briefed on the matter described it Tuesday as “a misunderstanding” and said the antiquities authority “woke up too late” instead of resolving the issue closer to the original White House event,” the publication reported.

“Several months ago, Israeli authorities learned that the antiquities eventually ended up at former U.S. President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, where they still remain.”

The Haaretz article prompted many jokes online about the matter.

“He has the Ark of the Covenant,” jested the prominent right-wing Twitter account, Second City Bureaucrat—referring to the artifact that’s believed to be the most sacred relic of the Israelites.

Others wondered whether Trump stored some of the Israeli antiques in a Mar-a-Lago bathroom—much as the classified documents allegedly were. According to Haaretz, this might have actually been the case.

A source updated on the affair told Haaretz that he wouldn’t be surprised if ‘the items Israel seeks are also eventually found in some bathroom there,’” the publication said.

Haaretz added that “it is unclear whether Trump himself is aware that the items are on the premises of his estate.”
