POLL: Two-Thirds of New Yorkers Blame Biden For Border Crisis

'Seldom do we see an issue where at least 79% of Democrats, Republicans, independents, men, women, upstaters, downstaters, Blacks, whites, Latinos, Catholics, Jews, and Protestants all agree...'

(Headline USAA majority of New Yorkers blame President Joe Biden for the border crisis and fear the massive influx of migrants will “destroy” their city, according to a recent survey.

A Sienna College poll published Tuesday found that 58% of respondents agree with New York City Mayor Eric Adams that the border crisis is destroying New York. Just 32% said they disagree, 3% were in the middle, and 8% said they did not know or refused to say.

“This issue will destroy New York City, destroy New York City. We’re getting 10,000 migrants a month,” Adams said last month. “Now again, people from all over the globe have made their minds up that they’re going to come through the southern part of the border and come into New York City.”

Eighty-four percent of respondents, including 81% of Democrats, called unfettered illegal immigration across the southern border a “serious problem,” compared to just 12% who said it is not.

Nearly two thirds—64%—said the Biden administration has handled the crisis poorly, while 29% approved of the president’s policies.

The poll’s results confirm that immigration is one of Biden’s biggest weaknesses heading into the 2024 election, according to Siena College pollster Steve Greenberg.

“Seldom do we see an issue where at least 79% of Democrats, Republicans, independents, men, women, upstaters, downstaters, Blacks, whites, Latinos, Catholics, Jews, and Protestants all agree—that the migrant influx is a serious problem,” he explained.

Another recent poll found that 65% of blue-leaning New Yorkers say the U.S. is going in the wrong direction under Biden’s presidency, and 52% of self-described New York Democrats want someone else to run on the Democratic ticket in 2024.

Nationwide, 52% of voters have an unfavorable view of the president.

“Biden has his worst-ever New York favorability and job approval ratings,” Greenberg said. “The good news for Biden is the election is more than a year away.”
