Trump Releases GOP Senator’s Cellphone Number in Latest Pressure Campaign

'Almost everybody wants 'The Sunshine Protection Act' to pass, except for Tom Cotton...'

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., may soon have to switch phone numbers.

President Donald Trump publicly released what seemed to be Cotton’s cellphone number Saturday as part of an online pressure campaign in a bid to get the GOP senator to back legislation making daylight saving time permanent.

Trump accused Cotton of “holding up” the “Sunshine Protection Act” or the “We Don’t Want to Change Our Clocks Twice a Year Act,” in a series of fiery posts on Truth Social.

“Nobody wants to spend their precious time running all over the place, turning Clocks back twice a year and, having sunshine in the afternoon is better than early in the morning!” Trump wrote.

Trump has long supported making daylight saving time permanent, but Saturday’s push came two days after PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp said he backed the bill in a letter to the president.

In the Oct. 1 letter, Rolapp said that the tour would benefit from more afternoon daylight because of broadcast networks’ limitations on coverage and “awkward lighting situations” during late rounds.

Trump posted a copy of the letter on Truth Social, while arguing that farmers, tennis players and hunters would also benefit from more afternoon daylight.

“Almost everybody wants ‘The Sunshine Protection Act’ to pass, except for Tom Cotton,” Trump added. “To the Great People of Arkansas, please let your Senator know it would be a GREAT Bipartisan WIN for the United States Senate, and for America, itself.”

Trump then urged Arkansans to contact their senator and to let him know “it would be a GREAT Bipartisan WIN for the United States Senate and for America, itself.” The president specifically wrote: “Call Tom on his cellphone at, 479-453-0533.”

Cotton addressed Trump’s demands in an X post, arguing that lawmakers have previously made daylight saving time permanent but have reversed it after public backlash.

“No one likes changing the clock, me included, but Congress has enacted permanent Daylight Savings Time multiple times before and repealed it each time once Americans experienced absurdly late sunrises in the winter,” Cotton wrote. “Arkansans don’t want their kids going to school in the pitch dark, and I’ll always put Arkansas first.”

Leaking the contact information of opponents is a tactic Trump used at least twice in 2015.

For instance, Trump read then-Sen. Lindsey Graham’s, R-S.C., cellphone number aloud during a campaign rally in 2015. At the time, Graham was running against Trump for the GOP presidential nomination.

Trump also posted a letter from journalist Jorge Ramos on Instagram that same year, publicly releasing Ramos’ cellphone number.
