Ilhan Omar Introduces Plan to Suspend All Rent, Mortgage Payments

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., introduced legislation on Friday that would cancel rent and mortgage payments for all Americans amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The proposal would establish a relief fund for landlords and mortgage holders who depend on monthly payments, but it does not specify how much money this fund would include.

The bill does, however, specify the fines landlords will receive if they try to collect rent or take action against those who don’t pay. First-time violators will be fined $5,000 and up to $50,000 for three or more violations, according to Forbes.

“The coronavirus crisis is more than just a public health crisis—it’s an economic crisis,” Omar said in a statement, likening the rent suspension to the 2008 Wall Street bailout.

Omar’s plan would undoubtedly deepen that economic crisis if passed, according to economists.

“Those mortgages are often securitized,” Carol Galante, a professor at the University of California-Berkeley, told the website CityLab.

“They’re packaged up into bonds and they’re sold as investments, and those investors are expecting a certain interest payment off of those securities on an ongoing basis,” Galante explained. “If they don’t get those, then those investors suffer.”

So, suspending rent or mortgage payments for a long period of time would eventually affect the entire economy, Galante said. And the result would be disastrous.

“So you say, well, who cares about the investors?” Galante said. “But the fact is that many of those investors are things like pension funds.”

Those pension funds support teachers, first-responders and other essential industries we depend upon, Galante continued.

Omar’s proposal might “look good on its face,” said Kathleen Engel, a law professor at Suffolk University, “but there are effects that stem throughout the whole society.”

Omar’s bill is co-sponsored by the other members of the left-wing “Squad,” including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass.

OBAMA: Biden Has Most Left-Wing Presidential Platform in History

‘Joe already has what is the most progressive platform of any major party nominee in history…’

(Michael Barnes, Liberty Headlines) Joe Biden has all but secured the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination to run against President Donald Trump in November. His main selling point is that he’s a moderate who can persuade moderate voters in critical swing states.

But Biden’s moderate brand is a ruse, admitted President Barack Obama last week.

“Joe already has what is the most progressive platform of any major party nominee in history,” Obama proudly said during his formal endorsement of Biden on April 14.

Obama curiously refused to endorse his two-term vice president during the Democratic Party’s primary elections. Many Biden supporters considered it a slap in the face. President Trump, however, intimated that something serious was afoot.

“He [Obama] knows something that you don’t know. That I think I know. But you don’t know,” Trump tweeted.

Now Obama is front-and-center in what appears to be an attempt to satisfy the party’s radical left-wing base and dupe moderates in states where Biden has longstanding union ties, such as Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. In 2016, Trump won those states by a combined 70,000 votes.

Biden himself has gotten on board with the bait and switch. He defeated left-wing firebrands like socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., during the primary elections by taking the more moderate path.

But in March, Biden claimed, “I have the most progressive record of anybody running for the…anybody who would run.”

If successful, Biden has committed to raising taxes on the middle class, banning plastic bags (even though far-left San Francisco just made them mandatory again for health reasons), reinstating the Obamacare individual mandate, doubling the capital gains tax to 40 percent, raising the corporate tax rate to 28 percent, imposing a carbon tax, banning fracking and promising to “get rid of fossil fuels.”

It’s an open question whether Biden would even be competent to serve as president for any length of time given his clear cognitive decline. But perhaps the scenario presents a de facto third term for Barack Obama.

The New York Post even posed a hypothetical scenario in which Biden would select Michelle Obama as his running mate, take the oath of office and then quickly bow out, invoking the 25th amendment to claim he was “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.”

Although the backlash from some might be severe, most supporters on the Left would likely support such a scenario with a wink and a nod.

“I believe Joe has all the qualities we need in a president right now,” Obama said during his endorsement.

There had long been considerable speculation that Michelle Obama might, herself, enter the race (perhaps if faithless delegates refused to back Biden, forcing a brokered convention), but that not only would subject her to greater political scrutiny, it would limit her to serving two terms instead of three.

The Obamas have continued to accumulate a massive campaign infrastructure network through PACs and super-PACs led by loyalists like former Attorney General Eric Holder and Michelle Obama’s former chief of staff, Tina Tchen (who has overseen restructuring of the half-billion-dollar “nonprofit” Southern Poverty Law Center).

They also have lucrative development deals with outlets like Netflix and PBS that would effectively lend themselves to free advertising, even if Michelle Obama were ultimately to recuse herself from them.

Tennessee Asks SCOTUS to Lift Obama-era Refugee-Resettlement Costs

Obama’s coerced resettlement policy had ‘the ultimate aim of changing the voting patterns of the states…’

Obama to Deliver 'Pointed' Speech About Trump

(Michael Barnes, Liberty Headlines) The Obama administration was flooding heartland “red states” with foreign refugees and making state taxpayers pay for them against their will.

President Donald Trump has since ratcheted-down refugee re-settlements, but pre-Trump cost commitments continue despite state efforts to end them.

Now, the Tennessee’s state legislature and supportive immigration-reform advocates are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene.

The controversy began when the Obama administration threatened to revoke billions of dollars in federal Medicaid assistance unless Tennessee state lawmakers agreed to spend tens of millions annually on Medicaid benefits for refugees the U.S. State Department was sending to the deep-red state.

Tennessee and other states facing similar ultimatums had no choice but to comply.

Dale L. Wilcox, executive director and general counsel of Immigration Reform Law Institute, says the coercive tactic was a blatant abuse of states’ rights and that Obama’s ballooning refugee resettlement policy had “the ultimate aim of changing the voting patterns of the states.”

“IRLI rejects this attempt to politicize the refugee program, and supports Tennessee in its fight against it,” Wilcox said in a Friday statement.

The issue is newly front and center after the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals recently rejected hearing Tennessee’s complaint on the grounds that the state assembly lacked standing.

But the pro-legal immigration IRLI filed an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday, stating that Tennessee taxpayers—as represented by their elected state lawmakers—indeed have standing because they’ve suffered an injury of $30 million a year since the state was forced to capitulate to the federal government while under duress.

The brief also urges the high court to review the issue under the 10th Amendment, which holds that “powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

“We hope the Court grants review and decides this important case in the interests both of the states and of the Nation,” Wilcox said.

Disgraced Va. Gov. Northam Uses COVID as Excuse to Empty Jails

‘We are facing an unprecedented public health emergency, which has required us to work collaboratively to develop unique solutions…’

(Michael Barnes, Liberty Headlines) Virginia’s disgraced Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam is taking a victory lap over his efforts to free criminals amid the Wuhan virus outbreak.

However, Northam isn’t measuring success in terms of justice but in how many inmates he’s been able to spring from local and regional jails in the name of public safety.

A Friday press release bragged about “dramatically” decreasing the state’s jail population, although the controversial governor also spoke euphemistically about the dangerous policy.

“We are facing an unprecedented public health emergency, which has required us to work collaboratively to develop unique solutions,” he said.

On March 19, Northam issued legal guidance to local and state law enforcement agencies to stop the spread of the Wuhan virus. The guidance was greeted receptively by Democratic law enforcement officials as it conveniently dovetails with the progressive impulse to treat criminal offenders as victims of the criminal-justice system.

According to Northam’s statement, the number of people admitted to local and regional jails has decreased from approximately 10,000 to just over 4,000 during a recent two-week period. Virginia’s overall jail population has decreased by 17 percent.

The Northam administration has pushed judges, magistrates and judicial officers to reduce or eliminate bail, as well as utilize home electronic-monitoring equipment and make sentence modifications to early-release convicted criminals instead of keeping them behind bars.

Northam has further proposed a state budget amendment that would allow his appointed director of the Department of Corrections to release prison inmates with less than a year remaining on their sentences.

Similar policies have taken root in places like New York City, where Mayor Bill de Blasio has come under fire after a police officer was killed responding to a robbery involving two coronavirus-related early-release inmates.

Northam gained national infamy last year for appearing in college yearbook photograph depicting blackface and a KKK outfit. He reportedly went by the college nickname “Coonman.”

Despite claiming that the pandemic was the catalyst for his drastic action on “mass clemency,” it was among several that was included on a laundry list presented to him last year by the radical leftist Virginia Black Politicos in return for their support of the scandal-tarnished governor.

In addition, Northam helped eliminate voter ID throughout the state of Virginia as part of an ambitious election-reform package with the goal of securing permanent Democratic majorities.

He also cleared the way for the removal of Confederate monuments Virginia’s far-left enclaves—including Richmond an Charlottesville, the site of a deadly 2017 clash over the illegal removal of two Civil War statues.

After issuing the shelter order, which diminishes the likelihood of protest, Northam last week signed expansive new laws supporting abortion and adding to the books drastic new anti-gun laws that had earlier drawn thousands to the state capitol in opposition.

Many of the counties in the state have considered designating themselves as 2nd-Amendment sanctuaries in response to the radical leftist proposals, and some have even considered seceding from the state to join West Virginia.

WHITMER: Abortions an Essential Service Because They Are ‘Life-Sustaining’

‘It’s something that government should not be getting in the middle of…’

Michigan GOP Leader Apologizes for Saying Dem. Governor 'Batsh** Crazy'

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Abortion will remain an “essential” service in Michigan because it is “life sustaining,” according to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

When asked about states such as Texas that have put a hold on abortions during the coronavirus pandemic, Whitmer declared that comparing abortions to elective surgeries, as Texas has done, is “ridiculous.”

“We stopped elective surgeries here in Michigan,” she said. “Some people have tried to say that that type of a procedure is considered the same and that’s ridiculous. A woman’s healthcare, her whole future, her ability to decide if and when she starts a family is not an election, it is a fundamental to her life.”

“It is life sustaining,” Whitmer said of abortion, adding, “It’s something that government should not be getting in the middle of.”

Ironically, Whitmer has garnered headlines for a wave of protests over her arbitrary decisions of what the government should and should not be getting in the middle of.

While she has deemed it acceptable for citizens in the state to be banned from seeing other family members or traveling to different residences, they are allowed to visit marijuana dispensaries and state-run liquor stores.

Whitmer’s state has the third-highest death total for coronavirus victims, led only by fellow blue states New York and New Jersey.

However, she initially threatened to block the use of potentially life-saving hydroxychloroquine to treat the virus, simply because President Donald Trump had endorsed it.

Texas, on the other hand, is one of several states temporarily banning abortions as part of a larger stay on all elective medical procedures.

“We must work together as Texans to stop the spread of COVID-19 and ensure that our health care professionals and facilities have all the resources they need to fight the virus at this time,” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said in a statement.

“No one is exempt from the governor’s executive order on medically unnecessary surgeries and procedures, including abortion providers,” he added.

Pro-abortion groups have challenged these restrictions in court, but a federal appeals court upheld Texas’s surgical abortion ban in a ruling last week, arguing the state has the right to use “extreme” measures to protect the health of its citizens. Medical abortions, however, must still continue in the state, according to the three-judge panel.

The Trump campaign slammed “the extreme abortion lobby” for using “a global health crisis to promote the killing of unborn children.”

“It’s disgusting, but not surprising,” said Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh.

Romney Excluded from Trump’s Task Force to Reopen Economy

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) President Donald Trump asked every single Republican senator to join the White House’s congressional coronavirus task force this week—everyone, that is, except for Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah.

The White House released its list of senators joining the “Opening Up America Again Congressional Group” on Thursday, and it includes nearly 70 senators, including all of Romney’s 52 GOP colleagues.

Romney, however, was not asked to join the task force, according to a spokeswoman for the senator. Trump went over the list of senators himself before the White House publicly released it, CNN reported.

Romney was the only Republican to vote against Trump during the Senate’s impeachment trial. But the two men have had a contentious relationship for years, with Trump often taking to Twitter to troll Romney, and Romney publicly opposing the president in Congress.

Just last month, Trump poked fun at Romney after the senator announced he had tested negative for the coronavirus.

Romney wasn’t the only one excluded from the task force. More than two dozen Democratic senators were not asked to join the group, including Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., both of whom ran for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination.

The task force will help assist the states as they begin to lift social distancing restrictions and reopen the country.

Trump laid out his reopening plan on Thursday, and it includes three different phases with nonbinding guidelines. The timeline of these phases will vary state by state, he said.

Joe Biden’s Campaign Looks to Michelle Obama for Star Power

‘She hates dealing with donors, hates the bulls**t political side of things and how fake it all is, and she thinks of it as a time suck…’

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Presidential candidate Joe Biden wants former First Lady Michelle Obama to have a front and center role in his campaign, according to The Hill.

Former President Barack Obama finally endorsed his past running mate last week, and now Biden’s aides are looking to involve his wife, as well.

“We know what pretty much everyone in America does: Michelle Obama is probably the most beloved member of the Democratic party and her support is a big deal,” a Biden aide said. “Any future announcement would reflect the incredible impact her voice has.”

Michelle Obama is expected to lend her name to help Biden’s campaign roll out a plan to increase voter registration, but the timing of the roll-out is still uncertain, according to The Hill.

It’s also unclear how much of a role Michelle Obama is willing to play. One source said she “has an incredible soft spot for Joe,” but another source close to the Obama family said her friendship with Biden likely won’t be enough to convince her to step into the spotlight on his behalf.

“She hates campaigning and fundraising with a passion,” said one Biden fundraiser.

“She hates dealing with donors, hates the bulls**t political side of things and how fake it all is, and she thinks of it as a time suck,” the donor continued. “It’s the single No. 1 reason she won’t run for office, even though no matter what office she’d run for, she’d win.”

Some have speculated that Biden might ask Michelle Obama to be his running mate. Dick Harpootlian, the former Democratic Party chairman of South Carolina, said it’s too soon to rule anything out.

“She may not like politics, but also Donald Trump has dissembled everything her husband tried to accomplish,” he said. “If she engages, God help Donald Trump, because she’s tough as nails and enormously popular.”

Sens. Seek More FBI Docs after Finding Proof of Russian Disinformation

‘We are deeply troubled by the Crossfire Hurricane team’s awareness of and apparent indifference to Russian disinformation…’

Bill Priestap / IMAGE: CSPAN via Youtube

(Ben Sellers, Liberty Headlines) GOP Sens. Charles Grassley of Iowa and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray requesting additional records from the agency’s “Crossfire Hurricane” investigation after finding evidence of Russian disinformation in recently declassified material.

Among the bogus Kremlin-sourced claims were the salacious rumors of a Russian blackmail tape in which President Donald Trump was said to have received a “golden shower” by having prostitutes urinate on him in a Moscow hotel room that his future presidential predecessor, Barack Obama, once had stayed in.

The senators, both powerful committee chairmen, had received a series of unredacted footnotes last week from Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz‘s probe into the FBI’s handling of the Russia-collusion probe and its application for warrants under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act to spy on the Trump campaign.

According to a Breitbart analysis, the unredacted material included the word “sexual” in footnote 350, confirming that the long denied and discredited “pee tape” story did, indeed, come directly from the Russians.

Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey personally briefed Trump on the existence of the Russian kompromat during a Trump Tower meeting in January 2017, but Comey himself subsequently acknowledged that his main purpose in the meeting was to collect additional intelligence on Trump.

The newly disclosed footnotes, provided by Attorney General William Barr and acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell, “reveal disturbing facts about the FBI’s investigation,” said the senators.

The agency’s FISA warrant applications relied primarily—if not exclusively—on the notorious Steele Dossier, which was commissioned as opposition research by the Hillary Clinton campaign.

But the footnotes confirmed long-held suspicious that the dossier’s author, ex-British spy Christopher Steele, may have been operating as a double agent and relying on deep ties with the Kremlin—meaning that it was Clinton and the Obama-era FBI who were effectively colluding with Russia.

“The Crossfire Hurricane team’s investigative file included at least two intelligence reports stating that key parts of the reporting from Christopher Steele—reporting that ‘played a central and essential role’ in the decision to request FISA orders—were part of a Russian disinformation campaign,” Johnson and Grassley wrote.

The senators said the new information contradicted the testimony of FBI agents—including Bill Priestap, the assistant director for counterintelligence—who were overseeing the investigation.

The timing of events, as revealed by the declassified material, also suggested that Horowitz’s conclusion that the investigation was properly predicated—albeit grossly flawed in its implementation—may have been erroneous.

Among the things that the FBI acknowledged being aware of prior to launching its investigation into Trump:

  • Russian intelligence was targeting Christopher Steele’s company.
  • Steele relied on sources affiliated with Russian intelligence.
  • At least two of Steele’s reports were the product of a Russian disinformation campaign.

“We are deeply troubled by the Crossfire Hurricane team’s awareness of and apparent indifference to Russian disinformation, as well as by the grossly inaccurate statements by the FBI official in charge of the investigation and its supervisory intelligence analyst,” wrote Johnson and Grassley.

The discovery left them wondering what other FBI materials may have been built around Russian disinformation.

“Because these facts show the intention, means, and ability to plant Russian disinformation in Steele’s reporting, they suggest that the prevalence of such disinformation in the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane investigation may have been widespread,” wrote the senators.

The senators requested that Wray provide them with all of the intelligence records received by the “Crossfire Hurricane” team, as well as any other FBI records that addressed the same “intelligence products” generated by the Russia probe and a list of any requested records that they did not receive.

BEHAR: Mich. Protesters Should Give Up Right to COVID Treatment

‘Can’t they be charged and arrested for that?’

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Joy Behar, a co-host on The View, slammed the “racist” protest in Michigan against Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s excessive coronavirus restrictions.

Behar suggested the protesters should “give up” their “right to treatment” if they catch the virus.

Thousands of protesters flooded the state capital Lansing on Wednesday to oppose Whitmer’s draconian executive order.

While arbitrarily permitting state-run liquor stores and marijuana dispensaries to remain open, it prohibits the sale of garden supplies and other goods now considered “nonessential,” as well as travel to and from other homes and visits to family members.

In addition to the inherent hypocrisy of Whitmer’s decree—and those of other state governors,  critics note the orders are a blatant violation of the First Amendment and a frightening indicator of authoritarian tendencies while exploiting a global health crisis.

But the protesters were the ones out of line according to the radical leftist Behar, who demanded that they return to their homes.

“I would like to ask [the protesters] if they’re willing to sign away their right to treatment if and when they get infected,” she ranted on The View, according to Fox News.

“Are you going to say, ‘I don’t need a ventilator because I thought I should go out and defy the governor’s order’?” she continued. “They blocked an ambulance the other day. Can’t they be charged and arrested for that?”

Co-host Sunny Hostin agreed and claimed Michiganders turned “Operation Gridlock” into a “racist protest” by carrying Confederate flags.

“If you are indeed upset about the stay-at-home order, I can understand that, because it is probably, I think, the most restrictive in the country, and people are very concerned about it,” Hostin explained.

“But I guess I just didn’t understand the manner in which it was done,” she continued. “… I thought rather than it becoming a stay-at-home order protest, it seemed to become some sort of racist protest.”

Behar went on to blame the protests on Fox News and its conservative hosts, before once again suggesting the protesters have lost the “right to treatment.”

“By the way, they’re watching Fox a little too much,” Behar said of the Michigan protesters. “So again, do you say ‘I won’t get the treatment if I get the virus’? That’s my question.”

Cuomo Gives Away Ventilators After Demanding Thousands from Trump

‘New Yorkers are generous, and they are grateful and gracious, and when you need help, we will be there for you…’

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Just a few weeks after demanding tens of thousands of ventilators from the federal government, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the state is giving away its ventilators to states that need them.

Cuomo said during a Wednesday press briefing that New York will be giving 100 ventilators to Michigan and 50 to Maryland, claiming his state has now “stabilized” its health care situation.

“New York had one of the earlier curves,” he explained. “There are other places in this country that are now seeing increases in the death rate.”

New York’s situation over the past two weeks has certainly improved. The number of intensive-care admissions is decreasing, and the number of confirmed cases overall is starting to trend downwards, as well.

But this change in tune could also be due to the fact that Cuomo, like many other governing officials, wildly overestimated the severity of the outbreak.

“What am I going to do with 400 ventilators?” Cuomo asked in late March. “I need 30,000. You pick the 26,000 people who are going to die because you only sent 400 ventilators.”

President Donald Trump had pushed back on Cuomo’s request at the time because he believed “that a lot of the numbers that are being said in some areas are just bigger than they’re going to need,” he told Fox News on March 26. “I don’t believe you need 40,000 or 30,000 ventilators,” Trump said.

Even at the coronavirus’s peak in New York, the state was only estimated to need about 6,000 ventilators, according to a model released by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.

The federal government sent at least 4,000 ventilators to New York, and Cuomo was able to secure another 1,000 from China.

Now, Cuomo is turning his attention to hospitals outside his state.

“I said at the time, New Yorkers are generous, and they are grateful and gracious, and when you need help, we will be there for you,” he said on Wednesday.
