Newly Elected Va. Republicans Vow to Investigate Sex Assaults in Loudoun Schools

'And when prosecutors are making plea deals on child-rape cases over the objection of the family, I have a serious problem with that...'

Virginia elected a Republican attorney general who has pledged to investigate Loudoun County Public Schools for allowing sexual assault incidents to go unpunished, The Daily Wire reported.

Attorney General-Elect Jason Miyares said in a press conference with Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman that the county’s attorney has failed to investigate or prosecute the alleged perpetrators.

Miyares said that he and Republican Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin believe a legal reform may be necessary to protect girls from sexual assault in Loudoun County.

“Right now, the way it works, is if a sitting commonwealth attorney requests it, we can come in and prosecute a case on their behalf,” he said.

“We’re going to be seeking…a bill that would” let the jurisdiction’s chief law enforcement officer “request [an investigation] because the commonwealth’s attorney is not doing their job,” he said.

Miyares said “social justice” commonwealth attorneys will not prosecute some crimes because they do not want to offend transgender groups.

“I’m going to do their job for them,” he said, adding that “the the victims have been forgotten.”

“And when prosecutors are making plea deals on child-rape cases over the objection of the family, I have a serious problem with that,” he said.

Miyares’s comments come in response to numerous sexual assault cases.

The most infamous involves Scott Smith’s ninth-grade daughter, who said that a boy dressed in a skirt came into the girls bathroom and sexually assaulted her.

When Smith and other parents demanded change at a Loudoun County School Board meeting, officials declared the event an “unlawful assembly” because of the parents’ opposition to the policy that lets transgender students pick their own bathroom.

Police arrested Smith, but Smith’s attorney said that his daughter’s attacker now faces charges.

Smith’s attorney Elizabeth Lancaster said a boy was charged with “two counts of forcible sodomy – one count of anal sodomy and one count of forcible fellatio – related to an incident that day at that school,” The Daily Wire reported.
