(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) Kathy Funk, a Democrat and former township clerk in Michigan, received a six-month sentence to house arrest for tampering with a ballot box in the 2020 election.
Funk broke the seal of a ballot box in Flint, Michigan, ensuring that the votes inside could not face a recount.
According to the Daily Wire, she must wear an ankle monitor and write a public apology.
“I’m sure there’s a segment of the population that thinks you should be locked up for calling into question the integrity of an election,” Judge Mark Latchana said at her sentencing on Monday. “And if we had unlimited jail space, perhaps that’s true. But we don’t.”
The votes in the box, relegated to the 2020 primary, were ineligible after Funk’s tampering. She won by 79 votes and went on to win the general election in the fall.
Funk lied to the police, claiming there was a break in at the town hall where someone opened the ballot box.
She left her position as township clerk for another job as elections supervisor in 2021. Funk left her position after police opened an investigation.
Prosecutors spared Funk jail time, despite the misconduct being a felony punishable by up to five years in prison. The judge sentenced Funk with 24 months probation in addition to her house arrest.
“I’m not sure how I feel about the sentence,” Flint Township Supervisor Karyn Miller said. “But I am pleased that the judge made it crystal clear that this was her responsibility and she has to be accountable for it.”
Years after the 2020 election, officials are finding more and more evidence of fraudulence at all levels of government.
An investigation into a different recount in the Midwestern state revealed several major irregularities and legal violations implicating several officials, including Soros-owned Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.
Critics also accuse Benson of blocking Republican poll watchers, destroying voter data and breaking the law with an absentee ballot order.
