(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) RNC Chair Ronna Romney McDaniel found herself in the crossfire after the Republican Party faced significant losses in the 2023 elections, notably losing control of the House of Delegates in Virginia.
In an attempt to deflect criticism, McDaniel asserted that Gov. Glenn Youngkin, R-Va., informed her that RNC funds were unnecessary in the state. Moreover, in an interview with Fox News, McDaniel claimed that the RNC primarily concentrates on federal elections rather than state legislatures.
McDaniel’s response came amid accusations from Virginia GOP Chairman Rich Anderson, who stated on radio show host Larry O’Connor’s program that McDaniel declined to match the DNC $1 million cash injection into Virginia elections, citing the 2023 election as a “down year.”
When pressed about the RNC’s decision not to allocate funds for Virginia, McDaniel responded assertively. “We were told in the summer that they didn’t need it and that they had all the money and they were good; that was the conversation,” she said during a backstage interview on Wednesday at the GOP third presidential debate.

However, during an interview with Fox News on Friday, McDaniel faced scathing pressure from host Laura Ingraham about growing calls – led by tech mogul Vivek Ramaswamy – demanding McDaniel’s resignation.
“Vivek and others are saying that under your leadership, Republicans have lost election after election and positing the question why should you retain your job given the track record of the party under your leadership and to that, what do you say?” Ingraham asked.
McDaniel, in response, shifted the focus to defeating President Joe Biden and criticized Ramaswamy for directing attention towards her rather than Democrats.

Ingraham pushed back, saying, “I agree with you. I mean, all that — all that you just said, I couldn’t agree with more. But, and you are right. Obviously, that should be a key focus. But, I know you believe in accountability. You talk about it all the time.”
Defending herself against criticisms of fundraising, McDaniel emphasized the limitations of her role. “A lot of people don’t understand fundraising,” she pushed back. “I can’t raise state dollars. I don’t get unlimited convention and state dollars. And these were state house and state senate races; the RNC is a federal committee.”
In the same interview, McDaniel dismissed the criticism as mere social media chatter. “These are people who come after me all the time. They’re on Twitter. They are all the time. And let’s see their results? What did they do in Virginia? How much money did they give? Let me stand by something else,” she said.
