(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) After Attorney General Merrick Garland’s tone-deaf rant last week insisting that any criticism of Hunter Biden’s sweetheart plea deal was tantamount to an attack on democracy, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., promptly answered back by putting Garland on notice that he may be the next one investigated.
On Sunday, McCarthy tweeted that if recent whistleblower testimony can be corroborated that the federal investigation into the illicit financial dealings of President Joe Biden and his son was hindered by the Department of Justice, Garland could soon be on the docket for impeachment, Breitbart reported.

McCarthy was responding to allegations made by Gary A. Shapley Jr., an IRS criminal supervisory special agent, who recently testified that the U.S. Attorney in charge of the Hunter Biden probe, Delaware’s David Weiss, wished to bring forward charges with the aid of a special counsel, but was denied by the DOJ.
According to the House speaker, “this will be a significant part of a larger impeachment inquiry into Merrick Garland’s weaponization of DOJ.”
Garland later denied Shapley’s allegations.
“I don’t know how it would be possible for anybody to block him from bringing a prosecution given that he has this authority,” he said of Weiss’s inability to continue the investigation.
According to the AG, Weiss never asked him to appoint a special counsel.
“The only person with authority to make somebody a special counsel or refuse to make somebody a special counsel is the Attorney General,” he said. “Mr. Weiss never made that request to me.”
In response, McCarthy suggested that the facts need to be brought before Congress, “and that includes reconciling these clear disparities.”
“U.S. Attorney David Weiss must provide answers to the House Judiciary Committee,” he added.
In the wake of the Weiss revelations, other House Republicans have also slammed the preferential treatment that the Biden family—particularly Hunter—has received.
“The American people deserve to know that when it comes to criminal enforcement, they are not on the same playing field as the wealthy and politically connected class,”said Rep. Jason Smith, R-Mo., the chairman of the House Ways and Means committee.
“The preferential treatment Hunter Biden received would never have been granted to ordinary Americans,” he added.
