Disgraced former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe claimed an upcoming rally in support of Jan. 6 protesters who are still being held in prison should be regarded as a national security threat.
“I think they should take it very seriously,” McCabe—a longtime proponent of the debunked Steele Dossier—told CNN on Monday.
“In fact, they should take it more seriously than they took the same sort of intelligence that they likely saw on Jan. 5.”
The “Justice for J6” rally, planned by Look Ahead America, a nonprofit led by former Trump campaign staffer Matt Braynard, is set to take place on Sept. 18 in Washington, DC. Protesters will rally in support of those arrested on Jan. 6 in connection to the Capitol uprising.
McCabe claimed that unlike the Jan. 6 pro-Trump rally, law enforcement no longer have to deal with a “sitting president actively fanning the flames and trying to get people to attend the rally.”
“And on the other hand, it looks like, from all indications, our law enforcement partners are well prepared for this one,” he continued. “They seem to be taking the intelligence very seriously, which raises a question as to whether or not they did on Jan. 6, but that’s another issue.”
Several Republican officials have pointed out that many of the Jan. 6 protesters who were imprisoned were not actual insurrectionists, yet they’re being treated worse than the leftist rioters who burned down several cities last summer.
Rep. Andrew Clyde, R-Ga., argued that much of the Jan. 6 protest, including the actual storming of the Capitol, was more peaceful than the media has made it out to be.
“Watching the TV footage of those who entered the Capitol and walked through Statuary Hall showed people in an orderly fashion staying between the stanchions and ropes taking videos and pictures,” Clyde said. “You know, if you didn’t know the TV footage was a video from January the 6th, you would actually think it was a normal tourist visit.”
