(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) After prior commitments to staying out of the 2024 race, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin hinted that he may be interested in a presidential bid.
In April, Younkin shot down the possibility of a run, noting that he remained focused on helping Republicans win legislative races.
“Listen, I didn’t write a book, and I’m not in Iowa or New Hampshire or South Carolina,” he said. “I am wholly focused on the Commonwealth of Virginia.”
According to the Axios, however, Younkin is uniquely positioned to be a formidable primary opponent for former President Donald Trump or Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
“He’s reconsidering,” a source close to the Virginia governor noted. “He’d be in his own lane: He’s not never-Trump, and he’s not Trump-light.”
A Virginia GOP strategist also noted that there have been “serious discussions” regarding the possibility of a Youngkin run.
Leading to even more speculation, Youngkin’s team released a video last week describing the governor’s potential contributions to American political life.
“It’s time to usher in a new era of American values,” he says in the video. “It’s our turn to choose life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Other sources close to Youngkin downplayed the potential run.
Dave Rexrode, Youngkin’s senior advisor, said that “Governor Youngkin is focused on Virginia. Anyone who anonymously says otherwise probably isn’t as close to the governor as they want people to think.”
Also to be considered, Youngkin has a track record of failing to recognize genuine threats and leaning leftwards. For instance, during 2019 and 2020 trips to Davos, he told the World Economic Forum that he supported “Environmental, Social, and corporate Governance” ideology with his former employer, the Carlyle Group.
According to Jarome Bell, a former America First congressional candidate, Youngkin’s foreign connections are seriously concerning for any patriotic American.
“I have never been a fan of Glenn Youngkin because I know of his background with Carlyle and his globalist nature,” Bell said. “Whether it’s being at Davos at the World Economic Forum, pushing ESG, or being a member of the CFR, I’m just not sold that a person who is in bed with Klaus Schwab and the CCP is working in the best interests of Virginia and America.”
