(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) As the United States and the European Union continue to condemn Vladimir Putin’s Russia, the eastern nation has advanced a law that would banish grooming and LGBT propaganda.
Chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, has major support for the legislation, which would impose massive fines, in the hundreds of thousands of dollars range, for spreading sexual propaganda.
The law would also lead to the expulsion of foreigners who promoted such material.
According to Volodin, Russia must take steps to curb the “darkness spread by the United States and European states.”
“There is no need to impose alien values on us,” Volodin said. “You destroyed yours — we’ll see how it all ends. But it’s definitely sad because this is Sodom — there’s no other way to say it.”
“Let them live there, but don’t bother us,” Volodin added.
Alexander Khinstein, one of the bill’s authors, described the bill as a sort of warfare meant to undermine the virtue and strength of the Russian people.
“LGBT today is an element of hybrid warfare,” Khinstein said. “And in this hybrid warfare, we must protect our values, our society, and our children.”
Political scientist Ekaterina Schulmann, a woke German academic, said that the legislation would target any material that displays LGBT actions as “socially acceptable” or in any way “equal to so-called traditional family relations or sexual relations.”
The academic also lamented that this amounts to a variety of state control over the media.
“People — authors, publishers, just people — will think twice before even mentioning anything related to LGBT,” Schulmann added.
Other westerners slammed the Russians for wanting to protect their culture.
According to Dilya Gafurova, the head of LGBTQ rights group Sfera, it is “disturbing that the state is saying LGBT+ people are a Western invention,” adding “there is nothing wrong with us and nothing that needs to be hushed up.”
