(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake has dropped hints about a prospective political bid, igniting speculations about her role in the upcoming 2024 election cycle.
During an interview on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures, host Maria Bartiromo inquired Lake about the possibility of vying for the Arizona Senate in 2024.
“There is speculation that you are going to run for the Senate. Are you going to be announcing that soon?” Bartiromo asked Lake on Sunday.
“I’m contemplating it,” Lake responded before admitting she could make more money off TV. “I mean, I could go off and go back into media and make a fortune, but this is not the season for that.”
Lake emphasized the importance of the opportunity to secure a Senate seat for Republicans. “We have an opportunity to pick up a seat, prevent it from falling into the hands of somebody who is a socialist or worse,” Lake stated emphatically.
In May, she held discussions with GOP leaders to explore the feasibility of challenging incumbent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, I-Ariz., who has since left the Democratic Party to run as an independent. Sinema is facing a challenge from the left by Rep. Ruben Gallego, a Democrat.
For a while now, Lake has been mentioned as a potential contender for the vice-presidential position if former President Donald Trump emerges as the clear GOP frontrunner for president.
“I think, eventually, the Republicans will unite around President Trump,” Lake further added in the interview. “He’s dominating. Obviously, if you look at the poll numbers, nobody can even touch him.”
Lake has called upon Republican nominees to withdraw from the race and unite behind Trump, advocating against what several Republicans have criticized as a dual-tiered political system.
