This year, President Joe Biden‘s administration will pay illegal aliens about $4 billion in cash through the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Additional Child Tax Credit, according to an analysis conducted by the Center for Immigration Studies.
The Internal Revenue Service treats the EITC and the ACTC as cash payments rather than tax refunds, meaning that illegal aliens who do not have any federal tax liability will receive money.
CIS Director of Research Steven A. Camarota determined the amount that illegal aliens will receive by calculating the total eligible illegal-alien population and multiplying it by the average EITC and ACTC payments.
He found that illegal aliens will reap between $3.8 and $4.4 billion from the payments this year.
Only illegal aliens who have Social Security numbers or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers qualify for the EITC and ACTC.
However, many illegal aliens, through legal or illegal means, have obtained SSNs and ITINs.
“Giving cash to illegal immigrants costs taxpayers billions of dollars,” said Camarota, who authored the study. “But that’s merely a consequence of a more fundamental problem: We give SSNs and ITINs to millions of people who are not even supposed to be in the country.”
“Doing that encourages illegal immigration and unauthorized work, and conveys the message that we don’t take our immigration laws seriously,” he continued.
Former president Barack Obama’s illegal and unconstitutional Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, for example, has qualified more than 650,000 illegal aliens for taxpayer-funded cash payments.
Camarota estimated that another 700,000 illegal aliens have stolen the identities and SSNs of American citizens.
About 9.6 million illegal aliens in total qualify, legally or illegally, for either the ACTC or EITC.
More than 2.6 million illegal aliens qualify for the EITC, which comes with an average payment of $3,925.
Nearly 7 million illegal aliens will benefit from the ACTC program and receive an average payment of $2,287.
Earlier this year, Camarota estimated that illegal aliens would receive $4.4 billion in direct payments from the economic bailout legislation.
