(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) A pair of globalist oligarchs from Europe may already be hatching a plan to meddle in American politics during the 2026 election after scooping up nearly two-dozen local newspapers in the state of Maine, Semafor reported.
Those newspapers, in turn, could play a big role in securing the seat of incumbent independent Sen. Angus King—a radical leftist who caucuses with Democrats—in next year’s election, as well as flipping the seat held by centrist Republican Sen. Susan Collins in the following election cycle.
George Soros’s Open Society Foundation and Swiss-born billionaire Hansjörg Wyss reportedly tried to keep their latest media acquisitions under wraps by going through a vaguely named intermediary organization called the National Trust for Local News.
Such is common practice for the dark-money donors, who frequently rely on shadowy networks such as Arabella Advisors to spread their illicit influence while potentially circumventing U.S. campaign-finance regulations banning foreign donations.
Wyss, a medical equipment magnate, has some past practice with media takeovers. For example, he is an active financial supporter of States Newsroom, a left-wing network of local news outlets.
Soros was recently part of an investment group that acquired Vice Media, which was responsible for the recent smear attack on real-life Sound of Freedom protagonist Tim Ballard.
Among the papers that the duo recently bought up are the Portland Press Herald, the Lewiston Sun Journal and the Kennebec Journal.
According to the National Trust for Local News website, “community newspapers are key to thriving societies, economies, and democracies.”
Further, the organization’s mission is to “create a future where local news thrives and people in every corner of this nation benefit from community-centered journalism.”
Presumably, however, the attempt to make local newspapers thrive means that Maine’s ranked-choice voting could be easily manipulated.
With a favorable 2024 political map expected to help Republicans reclaim the Senate in 2024, such long-range thinking could be the key that Democrats need to securing power once again and mitigating any short-term damages in 2026 by running phony Republican candidates, who could then ciphon off votes from Collins or another GOP frontrunner.
The Soros-controlled local media outlets would be on hand to run smear campaigns and other disinformation to push the wrong candidates, effectively sowing chaos in the race and allowing a unified Democrat challenger to coast to victory.
In any case, the coopting of local media sources in Maine is reflective of a larger national trend, which includes the centralization of the media into a propaganda wing for the establishment.
