(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) The Twitter account of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis‘ Democratic challenger, Nikki Fried, was hacked last weekend in an embarrassing setback, the Daily Caller reported.
The Democrat’s Twitter account display name was the first to be changed, from @NikkiFried to the new display name of “Nikki.eth.” Her biographical information was also altered, and so was her profile picture and her cover photo.
Keith Edwards, the communications director for Fried’s gubernatorial campaign, said that Fried was the victim of a phishing attack.
Edwards later asked for help from his Bit Tech comrades in dealing with the account issues.
Hey @verified @TwitterSupport, @NikkiFried‘s account has been hacked.
We’ve emailed but any quick support would be appreciated.

“Hey @verified @twitter support, @NikkiFried’s account has been hacked,” he wrote, suggesting that they make the fix sooner rather than later.
“We’ve emailed but any quick support would be appreciated,” he added.
Fried is currently the Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services in Florida.
Last summer, she announced her decision to run against DeSantis despite low odds of success. She claimed to be prepared to take down DeSantis, who she seems to view as a tyrannical threat.
“Those in power will do whatever harm it takes to stay there,” Fried said in ancampaign announcement posted on Twitter.
“But I’ve spent my whole life taking on the system,” she boasted. “I’m unafraid. I’m tested. I’m ready,”
The hacking setback is just the latest of many others that Fried has faced in her campaign for governor. Last month, polls predicted a landslide victory for DeSantis, who has achieved high levels of popularity in his state, especially due to his handling of the coronavirus.
Fried also failed to gain an endorsement from the Democratic Governor’s Association, indicating that they don’t see her as a viable candidate.
