DeSantis Blasts Disney’s ‘Stupid Activism’

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis blasted Disney in a speech protecting the Parental Rights in Education Act, calling their backlash “stupid activism.”

The reaction from the company, according to DeSantis, was a surprise. The governor admitted that he expected “the Left would have their spasm,” but added that he “didn’t think that companies were going to say anything again.”

According to Washington Examiner, DeSantis also took a moment to reiterate his goal with the bill.

“All I’m doing is trying to defend parents,” DeSantis said. “The reality is Americans are sick of some of these companies and their stupid activism.”

“It’s one thing to advance things in the political arena, but when they can’t get things done through the ballot box, they use corporate power to do it and to impose a leftist agenda through corporate America,” the governor continued. “You’ve got to be concerned about that.”

After the backlash from the bill, which bars classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity through third grade, Disney has doubled down on their activist tendencies.

Several of Disney’s recent trailers and announcements have introduced transgenderism into children’s shows. The most recent Marvel movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, is being publicized about as “the gayest Marvel movie yet.”

Even more recently, there has been the announcement of a transgender character on Disney Channel show Raven’s Home. Episode writer Nori Reed posted to Instagram, writing that she created the first transgender character for the channel, who is played by a transgender actor.

Despite Disney’s crackdown on the woke agenda, DeSantis has held strong and vowed to keep Florida free of corporate influence.

“I’ve got to go out as a leader and make sure people understand that [Disney] do[es] not run the state of Florida,” he said. “We’re not going to have our leadership subcontracted out to a corporation with close ties to the CCP and that’s based in Burbank, California.”
