POLL: Disgraced Cuomo Trails Behind Hochul in Hypothetical Match-Up

'I didn’t appreciate how fast the perspectives changed...'

(Headline USADisgraced former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo narrowly trails behind current Gov. Kathy Hochul in a hypothetical match-up to preview New York’s June 28 primary, according to a new poll.

The survey from Emerson College and The Hill found that if Cuomo, who was forced to resign over allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment last year, were to run for governor again, 33% of Democratic primary voters in New York would vote for him again.

Hochul would lead the primary field, with 37% of voters saying they would back her over other candidates.

If Cuomo decides not to run, however, Hochul’s support drops to 42% among Democratic primary voters in the state.

Cuomo has not said whether he will run for office again, but he has refused to rule it out completely.

“I didn’t appreciate how fast the perspectives changed,” he said earlier this month when asked about his resignation. “I’ve learned a powerful lesson and paid a very high price for learning that lesson. God isn’t finished with me yet.”

Since resigning, Cuomo has launched a digital and television advertising campaign pushing one message: He was driven from office unfairly.

He has claimed he was subject to cancel culture and denied any of the allegations made against him, even though an investigation by the New York attorney general office corroborated them.

“Any accusation can trigger condemnation without facts or due process,” Cuomo said.

“We are a nation of laws, not a nation of tweets,” he continued. “Woe unto us if we allow that to become our new justice system.”

However, the Emerson College poll also found that 59% of voters said they trust the findings of New York Attorney General Letitia James’s report, while just 23% said they did not.

And 60% of voters said they think the investigation was a serious attempt to find out what really happened, while 38% say it was politically motivated.
