Biden DOJ Jails 5 Pro-Life Supporters, Seeks 11-Year Sentences, $350K Fines

(Mark Pellin, Headline USA) While consistently giving passes to violent Black Lives Matter and Antifa protestors for endangering lives and destroying cities, the Biden Justice Department this week had five peaceful pro-life supporters thrown in jail, where one remains behind bars as they await sentencing of up to 11 years in prison and fines of $350,000.

Prosecutors arguing on behalf of the pro-abortion Biden administration said the five pro-life protestors — Lauren Handy, William Goodman, John Hinshaw, Heather Idoni and Herb Geraghty — had violated the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, which prohibits preventing someone from trying to kill an unborn baby.

In this case, Handy had used an alias to get an appointment at the Washington Surgi-Clinic, which has a notorious reputation for its particularly horrific practices and late-term abortions. After Handy gained entrance to the facility, the other pro-life activists followed and set up a protest that remained in place for three hours until their arrest and removal.

“They sang, prayed out loud, locked arms in front of the facility’s staff entrance, and attached themselves to rope and chains to block doors in the building as a means to ‘delay the murder of kids,” CBN reported of the event.

The Biden DOJ wants to imprison them each for 11 years and fine them each $350,000.

“Instead of being recognized for their heroism, the most pro-abortion administration in history has weaponized the full power of the federal government against them – treating them like terrorists,” wrote Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America in a statement.

The group blasted the trial judge for “extreme pro-abortion bias on display throughout this trial – for instance, donors to abortion giant Planned Parenthood permitted to serve on the jury,” claiming the defendants  “were never going to get a fair hearing.”

Handy was already on the pro-abortion mob’s radar, when officials last year recovered a box of aborted babies at her home, which pro-life activists said they had intercepted when the Surgi Clinic was trying to incinerate them.

U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, who allowed Planned Parenthood donors to sit on her jury, on Thursday ruled that Handy should rot in jail while awaiting sentencing. The judge denied an emergency motion that had been filed to release Handy from pre-sentencing detention.

“We have immediately filed an emergency appeal with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit,” tweeted the Thomas More Society, on behalf of their client.

“Ms. Handy was there to prevent these horrific live-birth abortions, which does not violate the FACE Act,” said Senior Counsel Martin Cannon. “However, she has become a victim of the merciless drive by Biden’s Department of Justice to prosecute those who are trying to protect preborn human beings. To add to that injustice, she was incarcerated when the true violence continues to be committed against innocent children.”
