Ben & Jerry’s created a new permanent ice cream flavor for failed NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, called “Change the Whirled.”
The vegan, non-dairy frozen dessert — which has a caramel, sunflower butter base that includes fudge chips, graham cracker swirls and chocolate cookie swirls, according to the company — will launch in 2021.
Ben & Jerry’s said it created the flavor because Kaepernick, who is a vegan, “sacrificed his career just so that he could speak up for and stand with people who’ve been systematically oppressed.”
“That kind of courage is uncommon — and desperately needed,” the company stated.
This isn’t the first time Kaepernick has worked with Ben and Jerry’s.
In 2018, the company created a temporary flavor in honor of Kaepernick called Pecan Resist.
Kaepernick announced the collaboration and said he would donate all of the proceeds from the new flavor to Know Your Rights Camp, which he founded.
Ben and Jerry’s will match his donations.
I’ve teamed up with @BenAndJerrys to serve up joy on the journey to justice!
Today, we’re excited to introduce Change the Whirled, a new non-dairy flavor that hits shelves in early-2021!

Chris Miller, Ben & Jerry’s head of global activism strategy, said the goal of the new flavor is to “normalize and reinforce” Kaepernick’s ideas about law enforcement and racism.
“It’s not a particularly radical notion to suggest that police forces and policing probably are not the best way to handling things like mental health crises and substance abuse, and contextualize them for people what a different vision of public safety looks like,” Miller told USA Today.
