(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) Some Seattle-based Amazon employees staged a “die-in” protest because of the continued sales of proclaimed “transphobic” books, The Daily Wire reported.
About two dozen employees laid on the ground, draping themselves in transgender pride flags. Security attempted to disrupt the protest but the employees refused to leave.
The protesters are part of an internal activist group called No Hate at Amazon.
In a speech immediately before the protest, the demonstrators expressed their displeasure with Amazon, and accused them of allegedly “spreading a culture of hatred through the sale of transphobic books, promoting and profit off content that advocates for the abuse of transgender children.”
Later in the speech, the group also explained they thought the pride flag raising ceremony Amazon hosted to commemorate pride month was a “PR stunt.”
“There is a direct line between the hateful transphobic rhetoric Amazon is profiting from, the unprecedented anti-trans legislation across the United States, and the violent and often deadly physical attacks so many of our community face,” the open letter continued. “2021 saw the most murders of transgender people in recorded history. Overwhelmingly, these victims are Black trans women and trans women of color.”
Specific books which were cited include “Irriversible Damage: The Trangender Craze Seducing Our Daughters,” by Abigail Shrier and “Johnny the Walrus,” by conservative commentator Matt Walsh.
“Johnny the Walrus,” a children’s book which tells the story of a young boy whose mother attempts to transition him into a walrus after he pretends one day, was a best seller at Amazon, causing leftist workers to literally weep.
Amazon employees called Walsh a “serial abuser” and accuses him of “taking advantage of… the Amazon algorithms to promote their particular brand of hate.”
“Matt Walsh is not some random transphobe on the internet” the speaker said. “This man is a serial abuser who has openly attacked our coworkers and our customers, and it will happen again if Amazon does not act.”
