(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., unleashed a scathing critique of President Joe Biden’s handling of the Maui wildfire catastrophe during his visit to a New York 5G manufacturing facility.
“We’ve got disasters going off in this country. We saw the devastation that has happened in Maui, the need to go there,” McCarthy stated referring to the wildfires in Hawaii. “But I’m very concerned about the response.”
“We still have hundreds of individuals that are missing,” he continued, questioning the federal government’s delay. “I think there’s gonna have to be a congressional investigation in response of what happened. How could we lose that many Americans in today’s age?”
The House speaker then drew attention to a controversial statement made by Biden at Rehoboth Beach, during which Biden declined to comment to a reporter’s question on the deaths that had just devoured Maui last week.
“And the federal response seems very delayed,” McCarthy declared. “The president’s response to have ‘no comment’? That’s unacceptable. So I’m going to work with committees too to look at investigating what went on so that never happens again as well.”
Footage of the terse interaction between Biden and the reporter quickly drew widespread criticism from prominent conservative leaders. Matt Walsh, a popular podcast host, took to Twitter to slam Biden as a “scumbag.”

Adding to the uproar, Maui resident Ella Sable Tacderan lambasted the president just days before his Hawaii visit. During an interview with CNN, Tacderan voiced a concern that Biden had been ignoring the catastrophe as he vacationed at a Lake Tahoe luxury mansion owned by leftist Democratic donor Tom Steyer.
“It’s really affecting me because where’s the president?” the Maui resident asked. “He decides to come here this week to come here next week.”
Later in the interview, she added, “Aren’t we Americans, too? We’re part of the United States. Why are we being pushed aside? Why are we being ignored?”
McCarthy has previously voiced partial support for launching an impeachment inquiry against Biden, citing his alleged obstruction of an investigation from House Republicans on the reported bribery bombshell and alleged political interference in the criminal probe of Hunter.
“The thing that holds up whether we’ll do an impeachment inquiry: Provide us the documents we’re asking,” McCarthy said during an interview on Tuesday. “The whole determination here is how the Bidens handle this.”
