DOJ Reportedly Scrutinizing Corey Lewandowski Amid Democratic Demands

The allegations against Lewandowski stem from a referral made by DHS Inspector General Joseph Cuffari.

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) The Trump-led DOJ is reportedly examining allegations that Corey Lewandowski, one of President Donald Trump’s longtime allies, may have profited from his senior adviser role at DHS when Kristi Noem led the department, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The allegations against Lewandowski stem from a referral made by DHS Inspector General Joseph Cuffari, who repeatedly clashed with Noem and accused her of “systematically” obstructing at least 11 of his investigations. Cuffari once told lawmakers that one of the matters Noem allegedly attempted to block involved a criminal investigation.

Lewandowski, who has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, served as an unpaid “special government employee” from April 2025 until Trump replaced him and Noem in March 2026.

In July, reports suggested that Cuffari had found “evidence” potentially linking Lewandowski to the improper awarding of government contracts. Officials on Cuffari’s team reportedly found that Lewandowski was involved in several contracts awarded by Noem.

It remains unclear what may have prompted the initial investigation. However, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee demanded that Cuffari look into potential misconduct by Lewandowski.

Democrats in both chambers of Congress have launched their own probe into Lewandowski and are expected to make him one of their targets if they regain the majority after the 2026 midterm elections.

Lewandowski’s attorney, Adam Trigg, said that the DOJ has not contacted his client “regarding any investigation.” Trigg added that Lewandowski “denies any wrongdoing when he was proudly serving his country in a voluntary capacity.”

Meanwhile, Trump suggested Thursday that no one in his administration is above the law when asked about the matter.

“All I know is, I want my people to be honest, and if they’re not going to be honest, they have to be prosecuted,” Trump said.
