(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., expressed confusion over the role of Vice President Kamala Harris during tie-breaking votes in the Senate. This incident has brought attention to concerns about Feinstein’s age and her ability to effectively carry out her duties in the Senate.
During a Senate vote, a befuddled Feinstein reportedly asked her staffers, “What is she doing here?” referring to Harris, who was presiding over the Senate chamber at the time, according to the New York Times. Staff members have forced Feinstein to remain on the Senate floor, informing her she cannot leave because of missing votes.
Feinstein and Harris served together in the Senate until Harris was tapped by then-candidate for president Joe Biden to be his running mate.
Despite calls for her resignation, the 89-year-old senator has chosen not to step down, defying the far-Left wing of the Democrat Party. If Feinstein were to resign, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, also a Democrat, would appoint a replacement.
Radicals on the far Left have been vocal in demanding Feinstein’s resignation, claiming her absence and failure to vote are effectively thwarting the leftist agenda of the party.
Others have torched Democrat leadership over what they perceive as “elderly abuse.” Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is reportedly protecting Feinstein from resignation calls to support her embattled protégé Rep. Adam Schiff, who is vying for Feinstein’s Senate seat in 2024.
Reps. Katie Porter and Barbara Lee, both Democrats, are also challenging Schiff for the seat. According to a confidant of the Pelosi family cited by Politico that the prevailing political strategy is to keep Feinstein in the senate “as long as possible” to benefit Schiff’s campaign.
Feinstein, who has represented California in the Senate since 1992, recently returned to the Senate after an extended absence due to health complications and multiple hospitalizations. The Times published an exposé on Sunday, revealing that since her return, Feinstein has been heavily reliant on her staff for function.
When asked about her months-long absence, Feinstein appeared disoriented and denied having been away at all, claiming, “No, I haven’t been gone. You should follow the – I haven’t been gone. I’ve been working.”
