(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) California legislators, led by a gay Democrat from San Francisco, are using Pride month as a virtue signaling opportunity for Gov. Gavin Newsom to sign a bill to stop police from arresting prostitutes for loitering, because apparently that’s racist.
In addition to future prostitution/loitering cases, the bill would let anyone already convicted on loitering charges to ask the court system to dismiss their case and seal the record, reported National File.
The bill’s lead sponsor, Democrat Sen. Scott Wiener, who is gay, said it’s necessary because police target transgender, black, and Latino prostitutes. The alleged reform is so critical that legislators had it approved last September but waited for Pride month to give it to Newsom.
“It is more important than ever to get rid of a law that targets our community,” Wiener said.
“Pride isn’t just about rainbow flags and parades. It’s about protecting the most marginalized in our community.”
Law enforcement officials and neighborhood activists strongly opposed the bill. A future filled with prostitutes awaits if it’s approved, warned the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, according to National File.
The current law is meant to deter prostitution before it becomes a problem, used to “keep prostitutes from hanging around public places, business, and residential communities, which can breed crime and drug use,” the Sheriff’s Department said.
If the bill is approved, many fear it would lead to legalizing prostitution, said California Family Council spokesman Greg Burt.
“This bill seems to be perfect if you want sex trafficking to even increase in California,” he said. “This bill is really going to affect poor neighborhoods — it’s not going to affect neighborhoods where these legislators live.”
Newsom has 12 days to sign or veto the bill, and the virtue-signaling clock is ticking down on Pride month.
