(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) President Donald Trump issued two fiery demands to the Smithsonian on Friday: install a 30-foot statue of George Washington and launch a five-year exhibition honoring his legacy.
Trump made the demands in two separate Truth Social posts, ahead of Constitution Day, which falls on Sept. 17, and months in advance of Washington’s Feb. 22 birthday.
In the first post, Trump said he was asking the Smithsonian to first install the statue that was featured in the Freedom 250 Grand Prix Race in the Museum’s Flag Hall. The installation would be dedicated on Constitution Day, Trump said.
He also said he wanted the Smithsonian to design and display a five-year exhibition worthy of Washington’s life, sacrifices and contributions.
The president then stated that the institution should install the “30-foot Washington Colossus” to replace the Infinity sculpture outside the National Museum of American History.
The Infinity was the first work of modern art commissioned by the federal government, according to the Smithsonian’s website.
Trump said the Smithsonian should replace “a sculpture that says nothing about America with the man who, more than anyone else, says everything about America.”
“This is how we should begin to honor George Washington in the lead-up to his 300th birthday in 2032,” he continued, closing with his signature, “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
In a separate post, Trump slammed the Smithsonian for commissioning a plan to “focus attention overwhelmingly on those who have been oppressed, but there is almost no attention paid to those who triumphed over great oppression, and against great odds.”
