(Mark Pellin, Headline USA) The inherent tyranny of mask mandates and vaccine passports is rightfully seen by many as a threat to personal freedom and liberty, but added to that is the loss of cold hard cash as a result of the government edicts that continues to hit businesses where it hurts — the bottom line.
This holds particularly true in cities run by radical leftists with a nasty authoritarian bent, like Boston’s Democrat Mayor Michelle Wu, who has obfuscated that her COVID mitigation policies and vaccine mandates aren’t permanent, but she can’t tell when they’ll end.
“These protections are not permanent,” Wu said as if she her mandates were a great guardian of the city, reported the Boston Herald.
Asked if she could had any specific thresholds for when businesses could stop requiring patrons to mask up and provide proof of COVID vaccination, Wu said she did not.
It can’t come soon enough for Boston businesses, which are reeling under the edicts that are crippling their customer base.
The Massachusetts Restaurant Association recently blasted Wu for her vax mandate, which have cost restaurants upwards of $15,000 in lost revenues, according to Business Insider via Yahoo! News.
“The damage that has already occurred statewide in the restaurant industry in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic cannot be undone, but the future of our restaurants, small businesses and employment are reliant on the choices our leaders make today,” MRA president Bob Luz said in the letter.
“We ask that you reevaluate the vaccine mandate given the rapidly improving conditions in Boston,” the letter continued, “and provide the roadmap forward so that the most beleaguered industry, in the most affected city in the state, can make a plan towards recovery.”
They probably shouldn’t hold their breath. For Wu, the mandates have been as much about control as COVID.
“Once it gets to the point that it is part of the culture, part of the standard expectation, there’s much less direct challenge in compliance,” Wu said of her mandates.
Let the restaurant owners eat cake, in other words, despite growing public outrage.
