The Biden administration has lost track of 45,000 illegal immigrants who are unaccompanied minors, nearly 40% of the 114,000 cases this year, according to Just the News.
“The decision to weaken the vetting process contributed, in part, to the Biden administration’s loss of contact with 40% of the more than 114,000 unaccompanied children who entered the U.S. illegally,” it said, citing an earlier report by Axios that was based on a Freedom of Information Act request.
Center for Immigration Studies warned in September that the administration did not follow-up with unaccompanied minors in nearly half the cases between January and March of 2021, and said the consequences could be dire for the minors.
By comparison, Axios said that in 2018 the Trump administration drew criticism for “being unable to account for the whereabouts of around 1,500 children released from [Health and Human Services] shelters during a three-month period.”
“If all this sounds familiar, that’s because it’s redolent of a 2014 incident in which UACs [unaccompanied minors] were found to have been placed with traffickers, who then forced them to work them up to 12-hours a day, six to seven days a week, on egg farms in and around Marion, Ohio,” said CIS.
Texas’s Republican Gov. Greg Abbott charged that the Biden administration was participating in the abuse of children by the lax enforcement at the southern border control.
“President Biden caused this crisis and has repeatedly failed to address it,” said Abbott, and concluded: “The Biden administration is presiding over the abuse of children.”
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said during a trip to southern Texas that there have been 212,672 apprehensions of illegal immigrants at the southern border this year, as of August, marking a 21-year high.
“It is out of control,” said Rep Michael McCaul, R-Texas, of the border crisis, according to Breitbart. “It’s a self-inflicted wound.”
